Hello Mod heads,
I was thinking that after i had picked your brains, sort your advice and received your Jedi like guidance it was, that it would be rude not to show the latest on the bench. So here she is my Lightning.

Not particularly exciting at the moment I know but she is getting there.
The kit is reasonably good but for me it has one very bad flaw. If you build it as per instructions you have to have it wheels down and air-brakes extended. There is no option to have it "In flight" as it were.
After having to sand down the inside parts of the undercarriage "covers" if you will of course they don't fit properly hence the very bad filling on the underside of the wings and in the next pics the airbrakes.

The trick I am finding hard is to come to balance of filling the gaps to make the parts fit properly and not obliterating the panel lines. Now this bugs me as this was quite and expensive kit for a 1/72 around £25 I think and although the detail is ok its not the best and for that kind of cash I would have thought that it would have the wheels up or down option.
Maybe I'm just being picky as I do like the In flight display as nearly all my planes are.
Might just chalk this one up to experience and go for the 1/48 Airfix kit instead.

Maybe re-scribing where needed would work out?

That way you can do what filling you need and replace detail as needed?

Looks good from here! I've built this kit wheels up, so I know what you mean. It's a PITA! But I preferred this kit to the 1/48 Airfix one. I did that in flight and still had to do a load of sanding and filling on the wheel bay doors, just more of it! Lol

Yeah thats what I was thinking Gup might just skim it over again with some Mr Surfacer and see what I'm left with.
Emailed Models R Go the other day as I only have the Revell scriber and for 1/72 its a bit big so on the back of Paul's How To Video (Good one mate Thanks) have asked John at M2go and he is going to get some of the thinner Trumpeter scriber's in. Service Par Excellance from the Models Are Go camp as which never cease to amaze !!!!

Must admit after doing the 109 I do find the plastic on the newer Airfix very soft. Or maybe its just me.

Yeah, I've found that. Don't know if its a good or bad thing yet. It is easier to work with (sanding etc) but that's IMO, time will tell.

Yeah it is very soft compared with others.

I find airfix plastic far too soft. I've had a few kits that I've wanted to build wheel up and they have been a right pita. Hope you get it sorted mate

That is a lot for a 1/72 and not good either seeing as it's a Trumpeter too, usually their stuff is top notch!
