J35j draken espada sqd

hi guys!
Now finaly my first started thread on the ism forum! After months of working in the house and yard and well name it.. i finaly gotten round to make a start on my latest kit: hasegawa's j35j draken espada from the ace combat series.

Its been a while since i have modelled and also i really wanna learn new tricks and techniques.. hoping i can up my game and keep up with the community. Also ive never built 1/72 so this will be first for many things

Some backdrop on espada squadron:
History

The operational history behind the Espada Squadron is unknown, but it is known that Marcela Vasquez held a relationship with her commander, Alberto Lopez. In October of 1995, Lopez defected to A World With No Boundaries movement that rose in central Osea after the Belkan War, abandoning their base in Sapin and disappearing without a trace. They were not the only soldiers from Sapin to join the group, as Air Force commander Ramos Gonzales and his Suerte Squadron followed suit.

On 25 December of 1995, the squadron accompanied the XB-0 Hresvelgr during the bombing of Lumen in the coup d'etat, along with other rebel pilots from the movement, and carried out airstrikes on Valais Air Base later that day. Galm Team pursued the XB-0 to the Waldreich Mountains, where it clashed with Espada. Vasquez and Lopez were shot down, and the squadron was disbanded.

This of course is fictional but for people that are familiar with the ac series this is a nice piece of info.

Hey guys im back!

As promised the box contents photos... although there isnt that much to show... its a rather small package (thats what u get... u get spoiled building 1/48, 1/32) also in comparison with my last hasegawa kit (1/24 lambo miura... wich will come by soon), nonetheless im going to have fun with this build as i really want to do it justice.

So stop the talking bring the photos


Boxart looks mighty decent.. also most likely my only reference photo for the espada draken...

Now its either my own insecurity.. or its hasegawa not paying attention to panel lines (wich most likely isnt the awnser).
But i feel they are really shallow.. so im either gonna be scribing or going in hoping my paint wont be too thick ...

Next will be a start on this project coming somewhere in the next days

An interesting project. I'm familiar with the Draken such that it is one of my all-time favourite aircraft, but I've never heard of this fictional one before.

And then...
Well time for the very real first update.
As i said in the earlier post, i was kinda anxious towards these panel lines... well i still am for a lot of these and without proper templates, deepening these would be a pain in the a... but with some thinking and reading and hoping for a stroke of luck i decided to freehand it...

Well that part turned out pretty ok actually.. i took a different route then i normally would and decided to give it a light coat of primer before doing anything and check those panel lines when primed. After doing so i got my first real go with a scriber and im sold... those things make life waaaay easier compared to using a xcato blade like i normally use when building cars. Gotta say tho 1/72 is reaaaaally small and im actually admiring those beautifull models here even more...

But as i said this a first for a load of things and thusfar im pretty pleased as to where i am at this point

Wich brings me to my next problem.. these actually are a bit shallow and without templates these will become even harder... does anybody know a easy/good way to tackle these?







So this is basicly where i am.
Scribed every larger/medium sized panel line (great for practice lol) and sanded & filled away some of my mistakes.

Last 3 photos are a dryfit of the major components and the just fit like a glove.. hasegawa got that part of this model real great!

Last thing i did was building the afterburner / rear part of the fuselage and this bit struggled... just a little bit...
Finished the seams without filler. Just xtra thin cement and a bit of filing and sanding and the seam was gone... i think... hope... gotta reprime it soon.





And that concludes this update.
Hope ill be able to find some time this week as im in a real nice flow atm... only things in the way are sports and family, bit hey not a problem she wont fly away.... yet... i hope... if my son doesnt find it...

The scribe lines look fine to me. How the heck did you do that freehand? I have very little experience scribing. I have an R-Scribe tool and templates... not sure how to use the templates... are they taped in place for each panel? The things just seen so unwieldy.

Taking it real slow and making sure i didnt put on any pressure as much as possible.. was a pain but in the end its myself to blame. The panel lines were decent enough and after fixing a few i figured why not... also just finished the smaller ones with a more fine scriber.

Im using PE scribers from scale motorsport wich are absolutely superb! I dont have templates so i really dont have a clue on how to use them but ill be looking into it as soon as i get some.

I bought some LionRoar templates from China. The whole idea just seems so clunky. Any time I have thought about using them, they just seem to bump into something else on the kit, not allowing me to line them up. I suppose someday I'll learn how to use them but for now I'm using Dymo tape to keep the scribe in line.

Hey fellow plastic addicts!
Back with another update on the draken... and a rather good one imo..

Since theres a first for everything, ive had my very first real experience with puttying and a good go with my new Ultimate sanders, and these make me soo happy! As i will be showing in the pictures the attatching of the afterburner gave me a challenge.. ive never been good at puttying and sanding models (even though im in the automotive and sand every day... no comparisson what so ever..)
But this was a good go even managed to fix some of my scriber misses lol

So basicly got everythig attached to the fuselage, wings, nose, tailfin, afterburner and all hatches. Thusfar its closed and ready to check every seam.
Did want to prime it at this point but... my fine tamiya primer can appeared empty... damnit.. gotta get some new ones this week... and yeah ive got Ultimate primer ready but the wife made sure im not getting anything before christmas... fml.

No pe, no scratchbuilding, wanted more detail but ive blown through my budget in the Ultimate webstore... soit looks pretty empty and boring but not much will be seen when its closed

And behold.. well or not.. its the only problem area ive had while assembling the draken. The gap was nuts.. filled it with liquid sprue first and when dried filled and sanded (did fine sand after this picture btw). Its pretty ok now only have to make sure the tailwheel hatches look properly closed but thats it.

One question i have is should i fill where the wings meet the fuselage? Its not that big of a gap and i dont think it would be too visible but yeah...
Ok second question would be when using my humbrol filler can i wipe acces filler of with some non acetone nail polish remover, or am i better off getting a waterbased filler and using these (as i have to go the the hobbyshop either way)

Hello fellow ism modellers!

Wel an updaate that was waay long overdue... i did model tho.. just didnt get a chance to write a good w.i.p. but this will be a biggie with loafs of photos.

With that being said let the slideshow begin.

Started of with my first time using Ultimate primer white, what a joy to use! First airbrush primer ive used and it paints so damn easy and smooth. In other words i love it!

Sprayed at my fathers lol didnt have my set i ordered yet




The day after i finally got to use my new airbrush and compressor

Started out with the pre-shading (wich was'nt that well painted but heck it worked lol)




After that started spraying the yellow/green for the upper and bottom "X"





In the end i ended up painting the top again as it was wat too rough... wich sucked.. so lost most preshading but im learning as we go.

Sprayed the silver on the bottom


Started masking the yellow (something i actually am good at)
And painting all of the dirty red







Whoohooo no bleeding, no torn off paint, no bullshit... except it being too rough once again... thats annoying but with some help from the people on ism and ism facebook managed too get a reasonable fix

Painted the black parts after that





And of course ended up glossing the plane with aquagloss. My first time and went ok... just need to make sure that next time my coats of colour are more smooth.





Decided to press one with this build as i was too scared too sand and lose panel lines after another gloss coat so... went on to the decals











Thus concluding this huuge update.

Next one will be my first time washing using Ultimate dark dirt wash.

Final update time!

The model is finished. Wrapped it up after some advices and responses via the facebook.

I wont get into much talking, and honestly i forgot to take pictures as i was in a great flow lol.

The Ultimate dark dirt wash is awesome! Even tho i kinda f'd my clearcoat... it turned out okay. Just pressed on and finished it.
