and
Thirdly - I've finished the King Tiger at last  .......well apart from the tracks need that some more work and I also need to add some mud and pigments but I'll be leaving that until I have the diorama base finished......FYI - the camo scheme changed again

WOW, mate I am impressed!

the Tiger looks amazing, the camo is very very realistic. Great job :thumb2: ;)
What I like, is that the wheels are not camouflaged, very nice datail. And I appreciate the chioce of number, not very common Tiger II from the s.SS.Pz.Abt.501
Congratulations on the great work so far :cheers2:

A little historical background /for those maybe interested/ - Tiger 204 from schwere SS Panzer Abteilung 501, commanded by SS-Unterscharführer Eduard Stadler /second in command, 2nd Company/. Was left after heavy fights in La Gleize. After the battle, the tank was back on track by the help of 463. Ordnance Evacuation Company, 1. US Army, but for a technical failure left again on the way to Spa.

UPDATE #10:

I made a start on the dio base the other night so thought I'd show you a few pics of the start of things. I've started by roughing out the basic ground contours using polystyrene foam blocks in 3 tiers, with the middle one forming a road/track and I will smooth out the transitions in the next stage. I made the pine trunks by sanding wooden dowel to shape and coating them with a textured plaster mix coloured with acyrlic paint and I will add green branches using Plumosa Fern which I am preserving using Glycerine. I roughed out the scene using the vehicles involved and some of the figures (still on their painting sticks) but this may change as I go along as I've got a few more figures to add yet.

I'll post some more pics as I progress and in case I'm asked, the tallest trees are about 12" in old money, 300mm for you metric types :th:

The trunks came out well, I had a thought in mind they'd be 'arrer straight when you said about dowels.

Ok, preserving with glycerine. Not even sure what it is cepting prefixed with Nitro it goes bang! Are you just using it as the wood is green, as in not seasoned or dried? If you used the ole 'air spray woodn't that seal it?

No mate, not the trunks but the branches are preserved to stop them disintegrating, Glycerine is used by florists to preserve flowers for display. You can learn all about it here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4T3dZfvIcs
I'll be posting an update shortly so you can see how it turns out

UPDATE #11:

Howdy Folks,

I made some big progress last weekend on the diorama base as can be seen in the picture below

Image

If you're interested in seeing what I did then rather than me uploading loads of pictures there's a short video on my YouTube page which gives a run through of all the different steps involved
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HjRwwewf1Vc

Or there are pictures on my Facebook page
https://www.facebook.com/18062767362984 ... 3036881161

If you're not on Facebook you can still look at the album by clicking the link, wait for the Pop Up asking you to log on and at the bottom is a 'Not Now' option, click on that and the pop up will go to the bottom of your screen, then just click on one of the pictures behind and then you should be able to scroll through the Ardennes Album ....this will work for any album on anyone's page :th: ......That's just for you Privatepete :th:

I'm not to far away from the end now, I just have a few odds and ends to tidy up and then to bring it all together.....I'll post more pics here and in the Land Gallery when I've finished.

Anyway, I hope you like what I've done so far and let me know what you think :th:
Cheers :cheers2:

What make is that plaster cloth. There's a new LHS in the city and they stock Woodland Scenic stuff, they had this type of thing and though I can't remember exactly 'twas a lot more than a couple of sovs.

I saw some in a craft shop, works out to 3 quid. Dearer than what you paid but a lot cheaper than Woodland Scenics here.

Those pine trees are great, look far better than shop bought ones. When you gonna update YouTube?
