Tamiya 1/48 Mosquito FB MkVI

Post by cptgandy »

My first group build on ism so I hope the build goes fine :)

I don't have much luck with aircraft as something always seems to wrong so I tend to stick with armor builds.

Progress has been a little slow but I have been working on the cockpit and some other bits, only messed up once as I glued the instrument panel in its place before painting it so I had to take that off and do some clean up before I start to paint.

Some pics

I have drilled out the end of the gun barrels to make them look a bit more realistic

Cockpit almost built but waiting for paint

Clear parts on the wings so I must remember to paint them before I glue the wings together

Inner cockpit walls

Somewhere to sit and a few doors that need some sink marks removing

The paints I have chosen to use

Some washes I hope to use as well

I do plan to buy the AK landing gear wash set soon but I'm buying a new spray booth first so all painting will be on hold until I get the new spray booth 8-)

This is coming along great.

Just a bit I've found about pre-made washes, you don't need to buy whole ranges, they can be used for more effects than their specified use.

Bit of an update, I have not done as much as I hoped as Im waiting on my new pair of glasses which should be with me some time this week and I forgot that when spraying mig paint you do thin coats and not thick coats so my cockpit paint job did not come out the way I hope but it could of been worse.

Bits primed

Should of taken more pics as we jump to test fit of the cockpit with weathering done

The cockpit is in place now and with the fuselage glued I'm slowly working on clean up so will post pics soon :)

I keep forgetting to take pics of my progress but landing gear is painted and assembled and the underside color done on the aircraft

Landing gear will need weathering when in place
Image

The great Ultimate black primer :D
Image

The underside painted with Vallejo BS637 (71.307) medium sea grey
Image

Going to give a couple of days for the vallejo paint to fully cure then mask up for the camo pattern on the top :th:

Cockpit is looking amazing, I found that the fit was good and tight and the two fuselage halves went together well.

She is looking great so far
