Hi from Australia newbie and question?

Hello everyone my names Chelsea I'm from Australia.

I'm currently starting my first model of an F-14 Tomcat, so far finding it to be ok but I'm not great with the glue, I seem to get more on my fingers then the plane.

Anyway this leads to my first question I got a little fingerprint on the wing hardly noticeable so I sanded it lightly with emery board (joys of once done beauty therapy all those tools).
I've managed to smooth it back a bit but I'm worried about painting the final model.

I've decided I want to spray undercoat (I don't own a spray gun I'll have to use pressure packs)

Now to mask or hide the little fingerprint should I pre-shade or weather the plane?
Can someone give me some tips on weathering pre-shading with a spray gun?

Hi from W.A.
Tamiya extra thin glue is the best to use most of the time , but it will wick under fingers and cause finger prints if too close to the part being cemented.
How much have you sanded it, if you have progressively sanded using finer and finer until using just a buffer the finger print should disappear, but be wary of sanding off the detail. Unavoidable at times , but it can be reinstated using a riveter and rescribing lines. Plenty of help showing these in practice on utube. I recommend Paul Budzick and Coen's video's.

Good to see another from Oz / NZ. We really need more people in the hobby down here. I'm only a newbie myself but you have come to the right place for advice.
All seem quite willing to share their knowledge.
I made the same mistake and basically did exactly what Digger said.

Thank you for guiding me along these lines I'm going to try and have another fine sand of the area again today, tomorrow is prime time and then few days I'll try and glue the swing wings onto the f-14 fuselage, hopefully getting something resembling an aircraft

Hi 63bp, I live in Newcastle area we have a good hobby store close to me, first time I went in I did feel nervous and somewhat out of place 'a girl building military planes Im sure there's others too'
Anyway I did pick up another kit too a Euro Fighter typhoon 1/72 it was discounted which I should of started cause first before the Tomcat but I love a challenge always loved a good challenge:)

I'm going to look at weathering but I don't have an airbrush sadly, I have seen washes yet I'm still new at this maybe I should just have the showroom jet for the first couple then learn eventually the weathering by hand.

Also future plans I really want to do a F-15 eagle in 1/48 scale which is big and a Harrier Jump Jet in larger scale the Harrier must have weathering.

So thank you everyone for excepting me into the kit modelling world. I'm so happy to be a part of a great little hobby.

Depending on the glue you have used there are several options out there to help remedy the fingerprint booboo.. Thee include and ar not limited to: sanding, debonding and cleaning.

If the paint is going to be sprayd on the finish of the plastic has to be next to prestine, because the thin layer of paint will show all the flaws in the plastic as clear as day. Therefore a primer layer and maybe even a filler primer layer may be neccisarry to get a nice paint job on the model. As for weathering and pre shading check out you tube, there are loads of video's on there shoving all the different techniques out there.
