1/72 Airfix Spitfire mk1a

I've been working on this one for a while now, and about to start doing some filling.
This is such a lovely kit with so much detail, panel lines etc, but a few gaps here and there unfortunately.

You can see the nice panel lines here, but not sure what the holes are for...

The wing section doesn't have a great fit with the fuselage at the front.

And there's a seam and a strange big hole in front of the canopy (anyone know what this could be for?).

I am by no means an expert on these aircraft but I think the holes.on the underside of the wings were for the used machine guns shells to be ejected from.

Looking good so far.

All masked ready for primer. Still need to do a bit of cleaning up on the filler too.

The hole in the panels in front of the canopy is the fuel filler cap. There is a microscopic decal on the sheet to describe the fuel octane requirement

I decided I've neglected this model too long, so this evening I've freehanded the camo...pretty pleased with it for a first try but could be better!

To end my most productive weekend eh...ever, I got the decalling done on this wee spit. Used Daco setting solution, can't ever see myself using anything else. I didn't bother with stencils as it's so small and I just want to get this one finished. I might not bother weathering it as it'll be a nice wee display when it's on its stand.
