Col Gabreski Sabre F86E

Post by RossiM1 »

Hi all just started on this kit I bought from Telford last year, its the Academy 1/72 duo kit with the P47 Thunderbolt and the F86E Sabre piloted by Col Francis S Gabreski who flew in WW2 and Korea and was one of the few pilots to achieve Ace status in two separate wars.
The Sabre is a nice kit having about 65 parts and decals, I purchased the CMK resin upgrade set also at Telford. So far have assembled the cockpit, and removed the kit panels to make way for the CMK ammo stowage and the airbrakes, the CMK parts are good but caused a fit issue when it came to joining the fuselage halves the ammo stowage parts interfered with the front undercarriage well, had to remove the side walls of the wheel bay to allow the fuselage to join, have then remade the wheel bay walls with styrene sheet. Next job is to prime and then lay on a Black gloss base coat, before the Alclad airframe aluminium is sprayed. Here is where it's at for now.

I saw a video review on this kit on YouTube looks like a nice kit. Good luck with your build.
