hey guys
two months, plenty of time for a new build. frankly the end is nigh is all paint work, geez I have not even glued anything for the last week. and that has to stop so...
i'm going to build a meng king tiger, straight out of the box. I like meng kits I've built a half dozen, so lets see this one.



looks good so far I dig the red plastic, kit has some beautiful rolled steel texture


also I get to try my new god hand nippers

kit comes with figures and a metal barrel


so got the first couple of steps done. those cutters sure do slice thru the plastic easy

so the plan is to make one severely weathered king tiger, faded, dirty, muddy, rusty, all out. I want to try a lot of weathering techniques that I have not used before. so the build will be out of the box, with the emphasis on the weathering.

sorry no dino's on this one, well I painted dino's like tanks maybe I should paint a tank like a dinosaur. no I think i'll paint this one like a tank
have not got much done cut the begeebers ut oh my left forefinger while trimming a sprue gate from a torsion bar. once I got the bleeding under control I stabbed my thumb once I got that bleeding control, I decided drinking was a better option that night' but have got this done, and decided to take a couple of days and only use a paint brush. see the end is nigh

it might be a couple of days before I pick up a knife again see you then

all right fella's i'm back at it
this pieces of this tank just fall together. it's like dragon and Tamiya had a baby lots of great detail that just fit. well I've got most of the hull together. now this has link and length tracks and looking at the kit I think I will need to get these installed before I finish up, meng supplies a form to give the tracks the correct sag well I guess we'll see how that works out


well i'm off to the spray booth to prime the road wheels and tracks

Looks like a very nice kit. I like the jig for the tracks, very nice idea from Meng. I saw one of these at the East Midlands Model Show on Sunday. Was sorely tempted as the Tiger II is such a great subject to model.

I've got one of the KT's in the stash, waiting for the interior and indie link tracks before I build it though.

hey guys
coming together nicely. just finished up the hull, used the kits link and length tracks (my first ones) and I don't think I like them hard to get the length right. well I guess that's why they make mud . I painted the tracks with ak rusty tracks, fitting as the condition of this tank will be really weathered. the dark yellow was a mix of mig paints I did not have the right color and i'm going to paint it white so I cheated a little bit. tomorrow i'll get the inside of the fenders painted and installed, and get to work on the turret. the kit also came with a cool little jig for bending the photo etch grilles




the kit has been a dream to build so far, and i'm looking forward to the paint of this beast

hello gentleman
first off I would like to say I love this kit. now I know what a rivet is I just don't care to count them, so I don't know how accurate this kit is but I have really enjoyed the build. I bought it from sprue bros on the deal of the day. I paid 37.00 usd for a tiger 2 kit with 2 figures photo etch and a metal barrel. so any way I should have bought a lot more . but who knew. have a takom with full interior but lost my mojo as I was buttoning up the interior. ok this thing has just fallen together, wrapped up the build today and threw a coat of mig primer on it (just ran out now I can use my Ultimate ). so this is were i'm at will start the paint work tomorrow.

got the paint on. ever wonder when you plan on doing a white overcoat the camo underneath comes out great . I almost hate to cover this one up. tomorrow will clear and get the decals done talk to you later

I completely understand about the camouflage. It looks great, and I would be as apprehensive as you about covering it up. What winter camo method do you think you'll be using? Using Ultimate winter wash might obscure less of the underneath paint, if you don't use too much

thanks guys got the clear on nd the decals. i'm going to use chipping fluid then spray the white overcoat, and then chip bejeebers out of it.
should hopefully have a picture of that tomorrow night

Good call my pointy eared friend. Distress the hell out of it if you can, lets see some of that sweet camo peeping through!

Bob, did you have any issues with the roadwheels "towing in"? I've seen some videos online that mention this as an issue with the Meng kit.

mr bowcat I did not notice that but i'm pretty sure I have the tracks on the wrong side. I really need to slow down and no i'm not going to show that, that's what mud is for . so besides all that I got it cleared and the two decals on yesterday. I sprayed two coats of mig chipping fluid and then sprayed mig matt white. had a problem on the turret with the white paint cracking, not sure what happened I think I did not wait long enough on the chipping fluid. I have mixed feelings about how it turned out. going to get the detail painting done tomorrow, and then contine on with the weathering, hopefully that will tie it all together

shot a gloss coat and used Tamiya brown panel line color for a pin wash, I think it looks to light colored, also used mig track wash to darken the tracks a little bit. I have been doing a lot of experimenting on this build and so far I am not so sure of the results, but what the heck sometimes you have to push the envelope.

also have been working on the figures supplied with the kit, they seem to be coming out a little better

will start chipping tomorrow, and we will see if I can get this one finished by the weekend.

all right fella's got after this to night. used Vallejo 70822 as a chipping color and chipped the tank, used a paint brush and then a little foam to add the chips. tomorrow will be the streaking and maybe some oils on the exhausts

The figures have turned out really well too - nice work all around!

having a lot of fun with all my weathering stuff on this build.

added some streaking effects, then did a filter with mig earth effects to add some color to the white paint. did a rust wash to the turret tracks which had been painted with Vallejo dark rust. also added a rust wash to the cables and other parts that had been painted silver.


I had painted the exhausts with ak crusted rust deposits but did not like the way way it looked so I repainted with ak dark rust oil paint, and will add some pigments later
