Well, the last couple of weeks brought this little adventure. The Tamiya 1/48 Swordfish Mk. 1 floatplane. For some reason, this kit has been hard for me to find. I built the Mk. 2 two years ago and it was one of my favorite builds of all time. IMO it's one of Tamiya's best in 1/48. It has a ton of detail and is very reasonably priced. It's a great stepping stone to Wingnut Wings. Here are some further thoughts:

1. The fit is fantastic. Everything you'd expect from Tamiya.

2. Rigging: I used the Tamiya PE rigging set as well as some EZ line in a couple of spots. The PE works. But it's hard to get the right tension. It came out better than I expected though so I'm happy with it.

3. Decals are Tamiya garbage. But You can make them work with Mark setter and softer reasonably well.

4. Painting and weathering: I used Mr. Color and Tamiya paints. The ribbing detail was done with Tamiya Smoke. Which is basically a transparent black color. I masked all the ribs and painted the smoke with the airbrush. I used the same technique on the Salmson and it worked out well.

This was a very fun build. It's complicated but a real pleasure to work with. I will do a build thread on the WIP page. Also photos from the build have been uploaded to the facebook page if you are interested.

I hope all is well where you are. Cheers and Happy Modeling everyone!!

Matt

I added some shots on a diorama base. I painted the roller wheels and the saw horse that is also included in the kit. Now it's officially finished I think.

Thanks again gents for the kind comments. It's a very fun kit and IMO one of Tamiya's finest in 1/48. ISM is such an amazing place.

I re-shot the photos because the lighting was poor in quite a few of my first photos. Hope you enjoy them!!
