And the first step is made...
Made a beginning at the lower hull.
Love Tamiya, it almost builds itself.

Image

But... I like making easy kits difficult, so the first step to PE is also taken. :wtf:
Its a hot air outlet. There was one molded, had to cut it out. Folded the outlet, added a wingnut too.
Man! It's been a while, so I have to get used again with these eye killers...

That's it so far!

Best of luck - looks like a cracking kit and I'm sure you will more than do it justice :thumb1:

You better leave more enticing bait to keep the carpet monster busy, those PE pieces won't keep your Jack Russell full for long

Ok, Time to get crazy again... :D
Worked on some PE parts today.
I was a little rusty, but i'm gettin the hang of it again.

The gun rack Was molded, so I had to remove it to replace it with a PE one.
I'm always ending up with sanding marks, I just can't get it smooth, even with a needel file.
Nah... You won't be able to see it when it;s painted and weatered anyway

Molded Gunrack at the top

Image

And a brand new one

Image

The lever on the left of the gun rack is replaced too.
Very small parts this time...
But I think it looks better then the molded one.
Does any body knows where this lever was for?

I also replaced the molded hot air blowout.
This one looks better then the firs one.

New lever

Closeup lever

And all together

Letting my eyes rest for today, tomorrow it's PE day again!

Right... New day, More PE to tackle.

Started to replace a foldable seat.
The Original is molded and does not have hinges, so time to make some.
Here is a pic of the seat from the kit:

Image

And here is the PE one...
I think I like this one better...

Image

Next it was time to go NUTS!
literally....
It was time to start at the (inside) rear of the Marder.

Image

There were a lot of nuts (or bolds if you like) molded. It lookt more like some round dots to me, so I decided to replace them for PE ones too.... Oh boy... 0.02mm these things are. Some plates needed to be removed too.

Here's what I did:

Image

That's it for today, next up: side panels. More nuts...

Did some recharge, and you might be right about the gun lock. When pressed forward the gun was locked on place, pulled out and the gun could turn. Makes sense Thanks Coen! :thumb2:

Hi guys! Time for another update.
This time I worked on the radio set.
Here is the Original radio that needed to be re-worked.

Image

And here is what it looks like when I was done with it after 4 hours tinkering...

Image

Added some electric wires and recievers and stuff...
The small shelf needed some liquid putty, for it did not fitted correctly. Also that bar mount above it has some putty.
Nothing a bit of sanding can't take care of!
There is more electrical stuff to be mounted, A speaker and battery, but It was enough for today guys

Image

And no guys... that radio isn't working :nena:
:cheers2:

Still got a few days of holiday left, so I got plenty of time to oncentrate on the Photo Etch parts.
And today I worked on a shell-rack (one of 2).
They needed to be reworked, for the poto etch case that is holding them.
Also the 2 part straps are folded and aded to the holders.
This took me a while, for it's very tiny guys...
Only did one side, because it's stressing your eyes out!

Wanted to put some ammunition in the holders, but Tamiya made the ammo in this kit a lot bigger then the kit ammunition holders! :(
Could try to sand the ammunition down, but then it would be to thin... so no ammo in the holders untill I found a solution.
Idea's are welcome guys! :thumb2:

There is also a radio speaker. It looks big, but I did some resarch, and it's the correct size...
Also added the wiring of the radio and reciever.

Here's some pics from what I got so far.

Image

Image

Image

I forgot to take care of two inject holes..
Just saw it on thes photo's while posting... Nah... no prob, lots of sanding to do

See you next update guys!
:cheers2:

Or did you just partially build them for suggested detail?

This is going to blow people's minds when it's done.

Thank you Coen!

The holders are a part from the kit, but I needed to fully rework them.
Had to cut of the "beam" and sanded the holders round again.
Here's a pic of the Tamiya part unprocessed. There is a 2 piece Photo Etch part from the straps/belts next to it. Needed to bend them and getting it in the right shape to fit the holders.

For the case/holder I had to bend a lot of Photo Etch.
Can't let you see that part for it's still in the fret.
Here's a pic of the manual instead...

Hope it answers your question?

Oh, and what's the detail made from? Doesn't look like the usual brass PE?
Thanks Chief!
No, this wil not going to be to the modelling show.
That show is on 13th of October, and I wil not make it.
And I already got 4 great models to show there!
Who knows, I might win something

The detail is Photo Etching too. Its just made out of another material.
It's the typical silver colour Aber uses... it is stronger than the copper...

:cheers2:

Cutting off that moulded on beam must have been a giant pain in the backside. That's a lot of material and curved surfaces.
Did you use a rotary tool or do it by hand?
