If you're anything like me you probably have a few different suitable paints each for grey, green, steel or gunmetal. So how do you see which 'grey' is right for that German half-track?

I thought 'I need some swatches'. I went on eBay and saw these for test/practise painting nails, they were 7 bucks (3-4 quid) for 50. The area I chose to paint ain't large but you can paint further down the stick.

I like em but if you know of a better or cheaper version let me know before I buy some more.

I just use plastic spoons.

Nothing wrong with that. These things come with an hole in the handle and a large metal ring to put em on if you want.

I tried to do something similar yesterday using plastic plant labels, not sure what type of plastic they are made out of though as I couldn't get anything to stick to them even cellulose based primers just peeled off.

Did you wash them first? I noticed with these things that some of the thinner paints like Ammo, AK, Model Air acted like there was some sort of contamination on the swatch things, like mould release sort of thing. OK after washing with water and a wee bit of dishwashing liquid.

Tried cleaning them down with soap and water, acrylic thinners and mr colour leveling thinners none of it improved the adhesion of the paint.

if your going to use that type of plastic I would try using an automotive plastic sandable primer first.
