SbS tutorial - Simple base

Post by PavelZabak »

Hello folks.

Here I bring you one of my point of view to how I do it.
1)
First of all it's good to have idea.
This is Eierkisten the surface of runwayt in Norway
Now, if you have an idea. It's good time to start with base.

2)
Take basic wooden base for create some terrain on it (I think piece of something is better then only basic wooden base).
Here, I use plastic profiles for imitating wooden surface and glued it with cyanoacrylate glue.

3)
With saw razor imitate wood structure (after that, you can cleaning surface with toothbrush)

4)
Now, there are prepared some materials for ground work.
I like using pigment paste and foam putty (like onetime)
Mix it together and make ground paste

5)
Gently, give a layer from mix to base

6)
Take old brush (with hard hair) and make structure of soil.

7)
Places without grass are different (there are smoother soil structures)
Image
8)
Soil drying and meantime than soil dries. You can prepare grass (I like natural colors of static grass). Can you mix some different lengths of grass or use small scissors and cut it.

9)
This is result

10)
Now prepare colors for painting wood planks (runway surface) and weathered them.
I'm using acrylics colors for base coats, dry brush and sometimes for wash.

11)
Base coated wood planks.

12)
Washed and drybrushed wood planks.

13)
Drybrushed soil.

14)
Base sprayed with matt varnish.

15)
Pigments gives soil more depth.
Image
16)
Make some oils leaks and stains.
Image
17)
Nearly done.
Any coloring of raw wood gives bases better look. (someone use lasures or like me basic colors).
Image
18)
Make base glossy(or matt, if you like it more).
Wait for dries and simple base is done.

Enjoy.
