Hasegawa P40

Hi All,
Here's a few pictures of P-40 egg plane I modified to resemble AVG Flying Tiger P-40.
I got the idea from another modeller I saw on the web and had to build one for myself.

So, the the center piece of this project is a pilot figure and leads me into uncharted waters.
I've never painted or even worse make a figure.
I started with torso of an Army soldier and the head of some kind tank commander.
I'm not sure what scale, may be 1/35? I don't know.
I also cobbled and re-positioned left arm into a thumbs up posture.
I used Apoxie Sculpt to render missing parts of the face (nose, jaw, chin, mouth, cheeks).
Also, added goggles and strap and cap straps, earphone parts.
Added collar, zipper, zipper seam, sleeve collar, shoulder patch, and enhanced the thumb.
Tools used were an Xacto knife#11 and tooth pick.

It was so, hard to figure what color to use for skin tone.
I know what I ended up with was a little pale(Radome Tan), but it works.

Keeping cartoon mood, accuracy is not part of this project.
I really wanted the jacket to have the "Red Angel" and I didn't think a decal existed,
so, tried painting it. It turned out not too shabby.

It's funny, I didn't realize how many different acrylic colors I used on the figured until I cleared off my work space.
Model Master: Radome Tan, Insignia Blue, Insignia Red
Polly-S: Desert Pink,
PollyScale: Grimmy black, U.S. Tac Tan, White, Earth Red
Tamiya: Desert Yellow, Clear Yellow
AeroMaster: French Brown

You can't see from pictures, but I added instrument panel.
I also, made a "Heat-n-Smash" canopy to fit on the spine.
Gun sight was made from copper wire.
Filled in main gear wheel well with "Perfect Plastic Putty" to simulate hub cap.
Main wheels finished up w/ a coat of PollyScale neutral grey and grimy black and applied spare ScaleMaster swirl decal and a coat PollyScale clear flat.
Added some detail to main landing gear using copper wire and plastic strips and rods.

The underside painted with a coat of Tamiya acrylic Sky and underside, spray Tamiya Flat White and spray Pollyscale Insignia Red, and then mask red band. Next, painted British Dark Earth, do more masking, and spray British Dark GREEN.
I used Pollyscale for Dark Earth and Dark Green..

Kit shark mouth decals had a dark blue mouth color, so I used no.11 Xacto blade and trimmed it out.
Shark mouth decals crumbled around the lower lip area.
I painted w/ white, preparing for red paint for tongue when white paint dries.
Remainder of decals came from SuperScale sheet 72-10 AVG and 72-863(National Insignia).

I sprayed a coat of PollyScale Clear Flat.
I used a silver pencil to add some paint chipping and paint fading.
Hopefully, everyone is as egg-cited with this type of modeling egg-stravaganza as I am!

Nothing like "Egg Scramble" in the morning!
