Iwata quick connect - need for Teflon tape??

Post by Warren »

Gentlemen,

When I fit my Iwata quick disconnect to my airbrush, would you recommend using Teflon tape (PTFE thread tape) around the thread to reinforce against air leak? Would you do the same to a quick disconnect on the air compressor?

Thanks.

A male Q/C to airbrush - no need as the Q/C should have a rubber seal fitted at the base of the threads.

Compressor - you would normally fit a female / receptacle Q/C at the compressor so that air flow is shut-off when the hose is removed & this would generally require sealant to get an air tight seal with the regulator.

If using a quick connect fitting from china then you may find the o rings don't last that long.

I usually try it without teflon and if it works, cool. If not, then I'll teflon it up.

Digger,
I said an IWATA quick connect. IWATA is a Japanese company. I doubt if they source from China.

Thanks.

Warren I second Jetblast. I did not use tape on the male side with the rubber seal, and all is well

You did indeed and You would be right. I misread assuming an iWATA AB .....So sorry .
Being IWATA and thinking you have to fix something with tape strike you as not being right. It should be totally unnecessary..jetblast is totally on the ball.
