yes have seen that, but I not about to follow in his footsteps yet. He is a master and I am not so I must gloss.

His videos are always fascinating - most have them are miles out of my league; although this one feel slightly more achievable :)

I think I have been more impressed by his work than anyone else's I have seen so far, it strikes me that every pigment of paint on his finished models is exactly where he wants them to be and nothing is left to chance

Ayup. I've done a couple on a nice, glossy surface of paint out of necessity or something, but I wouldn't dare go without gloss the rest of the time. I'm a pup, he's a lion.

As above I'll mark this to watch later. In the meantime though a question.

Since decals are added before most of the weathering what would happen if you just gloss the small area where they are to be applied? This is just a theoretical question, I just wondered.

I'm just wondering why you quoted me when making that statement. Have I ever made an argument stating Future is too thick?
Or anything else about it?
I've never used it.

I always gloss before decals because my paintwork with an AB is often not as smooth as is needed. I've only had an AB for 2 years so I'm still learning. What I should consider though is using some kind of buffing cloth to smooth my paintwork on the days when it comes out a bit rough.

Can anyone recommend a brand of polishing cloth that would do the job? I can get away with it on AFVs but I've got some beautiful aircraft kits in the cupboard so I think I might need some help :th:

many peoples only gloss locally for decals purpose and once dull coated.. it all blends in no prob... but ! I'm an old dog and I gloss the whole thing ! it is just an added protection layer in my book... what would suck is... If no gloss coat and getting tons of silvering due to crappy or finicky decals... What do you do then ?

will watch later... I like the guy... very professional in all his videos... Thanks for sharing !

I sometimes use foam on a stick....sounds crazy, but it came from a modeler who was leaving the hobby. Wasn't in a packet so I have no idea what they are actually called or who makes them.:

I have tried this using micro set/sol - after application and damping with a clean cloth the paint was stained around the outside of the decal where excess solution had been - it wasn't on their long - paint was Tamiya and I used an old model

But when you watch Paul B's video he doesn't have that problem (no surprise there he is a master)- not sure what paint he is using but I would be careful and test it on a relic using the paint in question with a spare decal.

I think I will stick to a gloss coat - my ability is such that it ain't going to matter lol

Yep, I have had the same problem with decal setting liquids and Tamiya paint....learned to be very sparingly applied and certainly have gloss on for paint protection.

Wondering if that could be used on purpose for stains at fuel filling points and such....is it a subtle type of stain ?

Not a rum fan although I do like rum and raisin ice cream :th:

I occasionally get visible marks when using decal solutions but they appear very matt in finish, kind of like the effect you get with dot filters. Easily cleaned up. For oil and fuel stains try mixing a little black or brown with a satin or gloss varnish and dabbing it on around the fuel cap, you get a nice shine and a little separation within the liquid which can look a little like greasy oil stains.
