I use Blue Melon and I pay to have a large amount of storage on their site but think they offer small storage free.

I have not done it in a while but there was a way to copy and paste the link thing to the forum

thanks Gb64c

I've found UltraIMG, UltraIMG is a free image hosting platform. UltraIMG supports almost all image formats that are currently operation in the photography industry including JPG, BMP, GIF, PNG and much more. However, UltraIMG only supports of the uploading image of up to 10 MB only, I don't think I need to upload an image of over 10 MB?
They also allow direct links to a forum...

Doesn't work. I recall having so much trouble uploading a GB I participated in that I never joined a GB again and pretty much only use Facebook.

I have done it before but always have trouble with it

So the conclusion is yes Blue melon photos works here too but the link does not give you the [IMG] portion which you have to type in for each photo making the process unpleasant

I'll be switching to Flickr, it works the same way as Photobucket. It's going to be a long slog re-uploading everything and linking to the build threads.

I'll put in another vote for Flickr. My experience with it has been just the opposite of my short experience with Photobucket. I've used Flickr for several years, but mostly over the last year since I started participating in this forum. Prior to that I had used it for family photos and had been paying for a Pro account in order to have enough space. That is until they greatly increased the space on free accounts, currently 1TB. At that point I stopped my Pro subscription and have been happy ever since.

I'd like to do a tutorial on how to use Flickr, but I'm heading out the door for vacation. On another thread Paul mentioned he will be putting up a tutorial on using Facebook. I think that is great, but I'm not a Facebook fan and my fear with that is that everyone will move to Facebook and this forum will become a ghost town. I hope I'm just being paranoid!

Here is a quick 1, 2, 3 on my Flickr workflow.

I take most of my pictures with an iPhone. These are easily upload directly from the iOS Photos app using the "Share" button. I think this comes with iOS, but you may need to install the free Flickr app. When you upload, by default, your photos end up in two places on your Flickr account, your Camera Roll and your Photostream. There is also an option to add it to a new or existing Album. Multiple photos can be uploaded at once.

If your images are on your computer, I think you can upload using the Flickr website. Or, in my case, directly from Photos on MacOS; Flickr support is builtin to Photos via its "Share" menu item. Select one or more photo's and use either "File > Share > Flickr" from the application menu or "Share > Flickr" from the popup menu (right-click or control-click). These also go to your Flickr Camera Roll and Photostream and there is an option to add to a new or existing album.

Once uploaded I go to my desktop browser, in my case Safari on MacOS, but it works the same on Windows as I occasionally post from my work machine. There you locate you image, click on it and you'll find a sharing button in the lower right. That brings up a form with "Share", "Embed", "Email" and "BBCode". Select "BBCode". There is then a drop down to select the image size, I use "Medium" which appears to be pretty standard. There is also a text box containing all the "code" you need to copy/paste into your post. Make sure you select ALL the text. It should look like this:

Code: Select all

[url=https://flic.kr/p/V1wdUM][img]https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4278/34792805493_54c419f66b_c.jpg[/img][/url][url=https://flic.kr/p/V1wdUM]Friday June 16 Live Show Update[/url] by [url=https://www.flickr.com/photos/147400048@N06/]Bob Mortensen[/url], on Flickr
After pasting I always make one change, I insert a return after:

Code: Select all

[/img][/url]
and before:

Code: Select all

[url=https:...]
so that it now looks like:

Code: Select all

[url=https://flic.kr/p/V1wdUM][img]https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4278/34792805493_54c419f66b_c.jpg[/img][/url]
[url=https://flic.kr/p/V1wdUM]Friday June 16 Live Show Update[/url] by [url=https://www.flickr.com/photos/147400048@N06/]Bob Mortensen[/url], on Flickr
Here is what you get from that:

Hmmm... :think: I guess that kind of turned into a full fledged tutorial! I hope this helps someone!

Keep on modeling and posting! :cheers2:

No problem. It's really not difficult. If people are still having issues in a day or two I'll try to put together something with screenshots and more details; once I get to our final destination that is, and assuming we have internet.

either imgur or flickr would be good choices. They both have mobile apps which make uploading from a smart phone very easy.

I don't find Flickr as user friendly.
I downloaded all 19 of my Sea King pics, made an album for them went back to look at them.....and it isn't there, I can't find the photos??? :scratch:: maybe they take a bit to upload I don't know.
Just not as intuitive and easily negotiated. Now PB was a royal pain as well with ads and stuff that hindered you doing anything. I had to close the window and open a new one quite often to deal with intrusive ads.

Yes, Flickr does have a few issues. Sometimes you need to refresh the page to see new images. Oh, and their photo editor has worked for some time. Maybe this will encourage them to fix it.

I really suggest keeping at it. Once you are used to It, I think you'll like it.

I am getting the hang of it to, just different interface. Once you bring images into Flickr you have to upload them to your photo stream. From there you can make albums and add images to them.

Re: photbucket alternative?

Post by TommyKillander »

Hi guys!

This is the workflow that I use for Flickr - I don't know if this is useful for people but here goes anyway :)

I'm using my Android mobile to snap photos of my WIP. I haven't figured out how to batch-upload pictures from my phone to Flickr yet, so I connect the mobile to my computer and move them by dragging-n-dropping. I want to keep local copies of the pictures on my server so I have to do that anyway...

The workflow is that I upload all the pictures I have and create an Album in Flickr.

I then go to the Organizr and sort all pictures in that album according to Date (oldest first).

After that it's possible to browse the images in the correct order.

To be able to copy-n-paste a link to ISM forum I first select the picture, then click on the Share arrow in the lower right corner menu bar. Click on the BBCode tab, copy the Tag-code with Ctrl-C and paste it into the forum post using Ctrl-V.

The Tag-code looks like this:

Code: Select all

[url=https://flic.kr/p/V5mYKZ][img]https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4279/34836267863_cb7f56b80f_k.jpg[/img][/url][url=https://flic.kr/p/V5mYKZ]IMG_20170405_183744[/url] by [url=https://www.flickr.com/photos/152211097@N08/]Tommy Killander[/url], on Flickr
And the picture comes out like this:
ImageIMG_20170405_183744 by Tommy Killander, on Flickr

If you want to remove the "ugly" footer you will have to manually edit the Tag-code into this:

Code: Select all

[img]https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4279/34836267863_cb7f56b80f_k.jpg[/img]
It will then look like this:
Image

You basically only want too keep the URL and the img and /img tags

Hope this helps someone. Good luck!

:cheers2:

Someone told me I can use google photos to share pics online too. Upto 16mb pics are unlimited, larger pics use up your google space.
Apparently I just upload there, click to open the pic and right click/properties/address. copy paste that using img tags....
Here's the test.

As many have already said, Flickr!

I've been using it for a while and have had no problems with it, once I got used to using it, which I guess is going to be the same for of the hosting sites!

I wonder how many accounts Photobucket have lost since the change?

Scary stuff mate. I only used PB for forum posts, never saw at as a way to store pics for anything else. Everything I put on PB I still have on my laptop, thankfully (and backed up on a little external drive).

I still cannot believe they have been so stupid with this $400 BS. The fact that some dickweebles sat round a board room table and said, hey, this is a good direction to take the company in, well it just beggars belief.

The advertising on their site really sucks, sorting that out could have been just as profitable and would have ensured they didn't lose accounts. But hey, what do I know. I don't have many brain cells to rub together but I would wager I have at least one more than the spanners who dreamed this sh** up.

Heard a new epithet for stupidity the other day - he's not the fizziest drink in the fridge - sums them up beautifully. :scratch::
Its been tried and tested, it works! So don't blame the system if you're no good. :doh:

I saw somewhere the other day that big companies have been affected as well (for example, some Amazon and eBay products didn't have photos), so I wonder whether this is actually all aimed at charging businesses. Lets be honest, in terms of the cost of running an organisation $400 is hardly going to be missed, and is probably worth the money if the business can keep all of its photos in a single place and publish them on third party websites just by copying the link

I can't imagine any individual in their right mind paying that much, and PB must know that too, which is why I think this must be aimed at businesses
