Gloster Meteor F8 1/48

This is the next build I want to have a go at, the fairly new Airfix 1/48 Gloster Meteor F8, after seeing the kit at Telford in 2016 it was added to my Santa wish list and come Christmas he duly delivered it. Having enjoyed building the Sea Vixen in the Fleet Air Arm GB, I had the motivation to start on this. Will be built out of the box using my usual mix of Tamiya, Valejo, Mr Hobby and trusty old Humbrol paints.

Progress so far, have sprayed the cockpit and various other bits with Alclad Black Micro primer, assembled the cockpit and ejector seat, then sprayed Tamiya X18 semi gloss black, weathered by dry brushing various shades of grey to help bring out the detail, painted the instrument panel and then dry brushed the dials with matt white, then added micro crystal clear to the dials to represent the glass, then added some yellow and red to a couple of the switches to brighten things up. Detailed the seat painted the cushion in a medium blue grey, then the belts with Tamiya desert sand.
Started spraying the various metal shades with Valejo metal colours dark aluminium, aluminium and jet exhaust. Added weight required using wheel weights 35gm in total located under the cockpit floor, these self adhesive wheel weights from work are just the job, slim and self adhesive.
Next up will be to get assembly proper underway.

The Meteor continued
Assembly comes together pretty quickly, engine mounts installed in the wings, undercarriage wheel wells fitted, and the wing halves joined, all fit seamlessly, the wing fillets added to the lower fuselage, then the wings fixed in place just a smear of Valejo plastic putty along the inner wing fuselage join needed, next the engine intakes added to the wings, and the engines built up and installed in the wings. Undercarriage assembled this is about the only tricky bit, as the instructions are a bit vague as to where the main legs go, but some trial fitting finally sorted them out.
All the airframe sprayed in Black primer still using Alclad fine Black primer as I bought 6 bottles of the stuff at Telford last year.
All the under sides then sprayed with Valejo metal colour aluminium and dark aluminium, will leave this to dry for a day or so before clear coating with Alclad Aqua gloss, then mask the undersides ready to paint the upper surfaces.
