Tamiya 1/25 Tiger I Ausf. E

Post by TheNordus »

Hello, inspired by Brett G's video series on this old kit from Tamiya I decided to buy the re-released set since my local hobby store had it on a shelf.
Building this was rather fun, even though the inaccuracies with the interior rather bothered me.

Here's a few WIP pictures from the construction. First time I bothered to fill in the pinholes in a model kit, usually I just scrape at them with my utensils until they're gone.

Here's a few shots of the interior, which I forgot to photograph until I had everything glued down. D'oh! Well, I intend to only have this displayed on a shelf with the hatches open.

Here's a few images after the first coat of Dunkelgelb. Now I have a problem as I don't know how I want to paint this tank! The decal sheet gives markings for a dozen different units but I'm not sure which one would be appropriate. I'm not big on building the famous 131 Tiger since it didn't see combat under British colours, even though I suppose the grab handle on the front deck of the tank was only put there by the Brits. Rivet Counters beware! I'm not trying to build an accurate depiction of any single known Tiger tank! Suggestions for colour schemes would be appreciated.

Well, here it is completed. I managed to finish it before moving, but getting situated in my new apartment prohibited me from making an update. Still a little unsure about how to use an airbrush and pigments.

Looking good!
I have that kit patiently sitting on a shelf. I hope mine turns out as well as yours.

Small fact. The grab handle on 131, as well as the step welded to the front cross bar, were there because the German driver was rather short. Those mods set her apart from all others in Tunisia.

Turned out really nice. I know I had a blast building mine.
And I am glad my video was an inspiration!
