Trumpeter Grumman HU-16 Albatross

I am building this as a gift for my Father-in-Law who flew one of these in the Navy.

This is one big bird! I probably bit off more than I can chew, but I am slowly making progress.

Things I wish I knew the day before I did them...
  • Don't store your Alcohol and Acetone in identical bottles with only a label as demarcation.
That first lesson was a painful one. I say first because I am sure I will have more before the build is complete. I had just spent about 30 minutes masking the canopy. I had finger prints all over the inside and felt I should clean it. I looked at my little squirt bottle and could have sworn it said "Alcohol". It didn't. The reaction was instantaneous and devastating. Luckily I found a chap in the UK that sold an upgrade for this particular kit including the canopy. I should be getting back to that build when the new canopy comes in.
