Hello from Texas

I am a couple of months into my return to modelling. I built several as a boy, but as with many things it fell by the wayside. Fast forward about 30 years and I found myself wanting to build something. I picked up a Revell SR-71 kit and a bunch of Testors paints. Didn't go as well as I would have hoped.

Not bad, but not great. I never took any final pictures. I broke too many pieces and did things in the wrong order. I ended up giving that model to my ex-wife for her 5 year old to have (my daughter's half-brother). It is most likely in pieces by now which is probably what it deserves. Not to be deterred I picked up a Revell P-51 kit. This time I thought I would try out airbrushing, because why the hell not. I went to the retailer mecca known as Amazon and picked up a cheap airbrush and some Model Air paints. I built a quasi-spray booth out of foam board and quickly figured out that the fan is important. Back to Amazon for a "real" booth.

Ok, I really look the part now. On to building. I did my best and took my time. I had seen some videos on YouTube and felt I knew what I was doing. This too, did not end well. In fact it ended with my foot on the plane followed by a quick trip to trash bin.

Still not deterred (or just stubborn) I picked up a Bandai Tie Fighter kit. This did go well. Sadly, no pictures of that one. I did paint and weather. I like the feeling of accomplishment. I picked up another Bandai kit and built it with my daughter. We both enjoyed the build. No painting on that one.

Next, was a Moebius Viper MKII. This was my first (and doubtfully last) experience with ordering replacement parts. One of the parts hit the floor and my dog felt it was something to chew on. The service at Moebius was great and they sent the part for almost nothing. I was happy with the build and decided to paint the stripes instead of using the decals.

To my surprise, I really liked the way it turned out. Feeling a little too impressed with myself, I thought I would forgo the thruster decals in lieu of drilling the holes out. Sadly, this was not a wise move. "Eye-Balling" is not good enough was this lesson. Followed by, "where in the hell did the canopy go". This is still on hold.

Next up, my wife suggested that I build a plane for her Dad who was a Navy pilot. This is posted here. I have a really nice example of dumb-assery in that post.

We are now all caught up to the present where I am working on Ed Force One.

I have learned a great deal from Paul's videos along with many others.

Howdy from a fellow Texan! If you're in Carrolton, it's not a long drive to goto Squadron's warehouse they're over on Crowley Dr. Haven't been myself, but it's on my bucket list next time I'm in Dallas.

Extremely close! Unfortunately, they don't allow in-store shopping . I don't know if they would let me check out the warehouse, I bet that would be neat to see. Living in the Dallas area does have its advantages! I can pay too much for stuff at 3 different Hobbytowns all within 15-20 minutes of driving. Squadron is by far the closest, I just don't know how fast they can get an order ready for pickup. I may have to test that out one day.
