BobM's 1:48 Airfix Hawker Hurricane Mk. I - Reveal

Well, here we are. A short 13 weeks after my first post in the build thread. It's hard to believe it's been that long! If you are planning to build this kit, don't worry... It doesn't really take that long! There was a vacation and lots of down time (and lots of mistakes) in there... This was a great kit to build and it went together pretty easily. The build had its difficult moments, but those were mainly due to my own errors. The exterior details are great (when you don't spill TET all over them); unfortunately all the cockpit detail is hidden inside a very small opening.

I wasn't planning on as much weathering as I ended up with. As I'm learning, it's something that can get out of hand real quick. On my next model I'll try to be more subtle; yeaaahhh that's it, next time, more subtle.... But you know what, I had fun and while the result isn't perfect, it never is, just varying degrees of imperfection!

I'm still working on my photography, so I hope the photos are OK. At this point I'm still getting the best results from my iPhone 7+ even though I have a fairly nice DSLR and other quality cameras. I also picked up some new poster board backgrounds, but I think the colors a pretty intense... Let me know if they distract too much from the model.

I really like the weathering, it gives an impression of a old war workhorse that has really pulled it's weight in battle!

Maybe you think you did too much weathering, but whatever it looks good. I hear you, though about weathering. I like to have a little sometimes but I don't want to build a flying scrap heap (which you haven't done).

I'm sure you've heard "if you think you need more, it's time to stop" by now but I've found it helps me to take a day to think and look at it. Personally I don't think it's too much, maybe just tone down the contrast next time if you think it's too heavy? Myself I dig it. It's a solid build man, be proud!

We are our own worst critics, right! Ultimately I do like how it turned out, just not what I had pictured in my mind when I started. I think your right, a little at a time is the way to go. My problem is patience, but I'm working on it!

I didn't read your blurb very well about the weathering...the plane caught my eye and I sailed right into the photos

Can you imagine how these aircraft looked during and after the Battle of Britain
I don't think they time for washes and the poor ground crews and pilots must have been working their bags off trying to keep everyone alive in the air and on the ground with the wolf at the door.
This plane looks like it has been through hell and back....a right proper Hurricane if you ask me

Well I like to see a dirty bird, war was non stop sometimes and clean machines usually were new or not seen a deal of action.
Love it.
