Color Cross Reference Paint Stand

Post by bfrd »

While working on my F-14 I am having trouble keeping up with the paint colors. Since I am using Vallejo paints I need to cross reference all of color callouts. Writing the Vallejo paint codes on the instructions is tedious. So I thought I would make a simple stand that has room for labels. I can stick a piece of masking tape on and put all of the kit specific colors on it. That way I don't have to keep going back to the first page of the instructions to find out what color X-? is then figure out what I substituted. I made a quick design in Fusion 360. Here is what I came up with.

The space for the labels is going to be a little obscured if both rows are filled, but for most models 8 primary colors are plenty. I could have made the stand taller to compensate, but I wanted to get all of the parts out of a single 12"x12" sheet of acrylic.

Switched on my handy-dandy laser cutter and *poof* I have a stand.

I don't have the proper glue here, so it is currently just taped in place. All I had was opaque black acrylic so you can't really see the holes in the top, but they are there. Not bad for about an hour of work.

I can provide the DXF files if anyone wants them.
