Rat Rod Ford 1957

Post by hansolo »

Hi guys,

Something different than what you are used to from me; A civilian car!
But there are similarities too. And that is weathering!
Lots of rust, dus, dirt, grime and decay.
It's a Rat Rod! And of course that's what I like about these cars; They are supposed to be weathered beyond reason!

So I bought this kit to mess around with.

Image

I put it together without any hickups and primed it black.

Then I gave it the rusty base color that lies at the bottom of all Rat Rod weathering.

With the sponge technique I made some tonal variations.

The roof was to be painted white. So I masked off the rest, made the roof wet with water and sprinlked salt of varying grain sizes
onto the roof.
I'm using the salt technique here for the entire car, instead of my usual hairspray technique because I think the results of it
resemble better the weathering effects of old rusty cars then in the case of armour, the wear and tear that you see there.

Salt removed with a stiff brush. You can see the rust pattern that the salt creates is diffeerent from the hairspray technique.

The rest of the car is to be painted blue. With the exaption of the left frontal mudguard and the passenger door.
Which I have masked separately the paint there own respective colours.

Door painted.

Masks and salt removed.

Masks for the rest.

All masks and salt removed.

That's it for now, folks.
Next up: Detail painting, oilpaints and engine and interior painting.
