Looking through a well known modelling site, found a beautiful resin seat with harness for a 1/48 Hurricane and also a colour PE instrument panel for the same aircraft. Total cost less than £8.

Went to the checkout section on the site and the postage (UK company to UK address) increased the cost of the order by 50%. Now I don't consider myself a tight arse but the toys well and truly went out of the pram.

I even started thinking up other things to buy to lessen the impact of the postage. In the end I bought nothing.

I couldn't bump up the buy with more kits as I have a ban in place at the moment (self imposed) so I faffed for a bit trying to buy some paint (like pulling teeth given the limits of the search function) and then gave up.

Hmmm, haven't built a jet for decades. I shall bear that in mind as I head off in the morning. I'll post some pics of whatever I buy just so people don't think I'm putting all my money under the mattress.

$800 for a sliding mitre saw - now that sounds seriously cool. Your tastes are somewhat more heavy metal than mine but life is sweet when we can buy cool (and sometimes silly) stuff and feel absolutely AWESOME doing it.

I try to use up the weight allowance by buying more, trouble is I end up spending 3 times more
Seems to be in most places if you can keep the weight to under a kilo then it is manageable. I would like to buy the merit ( trumpeter ) soft top M19 tank transporter, but it weighs 1.2kg. Freight goes from $16 for 1kg to $30 for this kit on its own. Now to get the freight back down to a reasonable cost ( $7 per kit ) I have to buy an additional 2.3kg of kits. Would love to, but my wallets says "WTF" is going on here.....cost blows out to $400. So it stays there for now....

I have a Makita compound slider....absolutely love it.....good clean repeatable accurate cuts every time. Get yourself a nice one and you will congratulate yourself every time you use it. Post a pic when you get yours out of the box.
Only have one tiny complaint with mine....cutting swallow compound passes sometimes will not go quite the whole way...stops 2mm short. Maybe if I had of bought the bigger one with the 300mm blade it might not do that. Still very happy with it though.

I am looking at the Bosche as it has a specialized flush arm so slides forward, but had no rails in behind it.
Thus it takes up less space. I have a rough stand for it in the garage, just have to make a mobile base.

No rails that's cool and practical... that's has been a factor of annoyance several times, having to pull it forward enough for clearance.
I reused a stand from one of those cheap Chinese baby size table saws and put a set of wheels under it so I can easily move it. The stand I got from a friend who killed the saw so took it off his hands and reemployed it.
10'' saw which is what I have will do 95% of what I need. Occasionally I need that bit of extra depth and the bigger saw would be handy, but I can usually find a work around. Sometimes a bigger blade would be slightly better cutting some materials so that the angle of attack of the teeth was shallower and not just diving in and leaping out ripping the fibres.

OHH I do like it !!
This is a serious bit of kit, marvellous engineering....my only concern would be with all those linkages does it cause the blade to wobble or creep to one side..... I don't think it would. I would be thinking they have those linkage pins cone shaped so they are pulled in tight.

They had it in the shop this morning. Nicely priced too but I couldn't do it. I'm just not into jets. I'm sorry I let you down!

I'm afraid I reverted to type after about an hour and ended up buying a Meng 1/35 Leopard 2 MBT. Its a beauty of a kit and the owner did his usual and knocked 10% off.

As much as I hate to disagree with m'learned friend when you take into account the fixed costs such as a jiffy bag, bit of bubble-wrap, the minimum postal charge (as per Paul's post) and the cost of a minion to wrap it in your requested "Hello Kitty" wrapping paper then I put it to you Noman Stanley Stokesy that you have indeed on this occasion been guilty of being "a bit tight".

Seriously though although when you look at it as a percentage of the cost of goods it can seem to look a bit eye-watering but that's always going to be the way when shipping small stuff. If you think about it then it costs £0.56 just to send a piece of paper second class these days.

As for the transatlantic costs they are truly extortionate, especially when the customs lads decide to pounce on them.

But don't get me started on the service charges added to print at home tickets for events though!
