Hi, just dipping my toes into the exciting world of scale modelling. I have been painting warhammer for a few years now and fancy something a bit more grown up and technical. I work in aircraft engineering and thought it would be cool to see if I can replicate some of the aircraft I have worked on. My first kit I have bought is the Revell Tornado F3 1:48 but as I have a sentimental attachment to this Tonka I have put it in my 'hopefully once I am good enough' pile. I have started the Tamiya 1:48 F-16 aggressor and really enjoying the build so far.
I have just started going through the different topics and perusing the multitude of techniques which are used in this hobby! Wow! I didn't realise how many techniques there were.
I am hoping to learn some of these techniques and spend some time on creating something that I am happy to stick in my display cabinet, with the lights on.
Any advice, hints or tips would be greatly appreciated. Especially when it comes to gloss varnishing! Do you do one coat or multiple thin coats?

Personally I go for multiple thin coats of varnish (this is my general approach when using my airbrush), but there are a number of different approaches

Thank you,i have been slightly hesitant in applying it until i had some advice. I am using Vallejos gloss varnish through my airbrush. How long would you recommend waiting before applying enamel wash?

Depends of the type of varnish - I have never used Vallejo so can't comment on that

Generally I would leave a varnish at least 24 hours before touching it, just to make sure its 100% cured

Others here will be able to give much better advice

Make sure to start a build thread for it when you do make a start on it Have a look at mine here viewtopic.php?f=45&t=21937. Not 100% accurate but I'm pleased with it nonetheless.

Thanks, the 43 Squadron Tornados used to fly over my house every day when I was growing up. Such an amazing roar from those engines!
