Help identifying the purpose of a kit part from Tamiya's BT-7 series

Post by TheNordus »

I'm looking for what exactly this thing is in real life. It's doubtlessly a real part of the tank but I can't figure out what the heck it is and it's doing me bloody head in!

Here it's hiding just behind the engine grille. Tamiya tells you to paint it red brown.

I'm building a BT-42, the Finnish meme of a tank. I'm probably going to enter it into a competition coming up in a week to commemorate Finland's 100th Birthday on 6th of December this year. My placing will also directly determine my worth as a modeller.

I would take a guess...

Since a few pictures on the net of refurbished ones... show that as an Empty tray! I would advance they are Wheel chocks!
Since the tanks could have its tracks removed and drive on wheels like a truck ! it would make sense to have wheel chocks!
like 2 or 4 of them piled opposite each other to form a rectangle!

look at picture 157 for empty tray !

and exploded view

Thanks, I thought it might have been wheel chocks as soon as I posted this thread, remembering a video about the BT-7 I once saw. Shame, I don't know how to weather them to look like wood for my BT-42.

Blimey, that’s some collective good sleuthing fellas. Got to admit, when I’m putting greeblies on a tank I’m just interested in putting them in the right place! An id is beyond my skill set a lot of the time!
Its been tried and tested, it works! So don't blame the system if you're no good.
