Help! Any idea what Model Sherman this is?

Post by sanovabeach2 »

Hey everyone need a little help. Can you identify what model Shermans are these? The one especially appearing on 0:58.

Its for a future project, that I will do to celebrate Anniversary of the Liberation of our Island "Panay" here in the Philippines.

Any info would be a big help.

Short fact: Local Guerillas already retook most of Panay before the 40th Infantry Division Landed.

Thank you..

Hey Beach,
I saw an M3 Stuart light tank, a couple of M4 Shermans, and a few M4 compsitite hull Shermans.
The one at 58 sec looked like an M4.

The M4 Sherman at 58 seconds is the M4A2 by the looks of the side of the upper hull and turret, tho I am no expert I just have a Gif file that compares the 3 types..... M4A1, M4A2, M4A3 used in the pacific against the Japanese forces.

See if this works.. you have to give it a moment or two as it is a big file to display. Hope this helps.. :th:

The special toy link in your post isn't working my friend, tho my Sherman gif isn't working on my tablet either..:
Mr Coen sir...Pleaseeeeee , armour is your speciality I believe, does my Sherman gif link work for you?
.... And do you think its the M4A2 also or am I way out?
Like I said I am no expert so am not sure, only on it being an M4 variant.
You will have to fix the link so we can see which kit you are referring to sanovabeach... :th:

Your link works Wappy.
Beach's doesn't appear to be working though.
As for the Sherman, it could be either an M4 (welded hull) or an M4A2. The only real difference between the M4 and the A2 is the engine and ammo stowage. So you could use a kit of either. The A2 was used more by the Marines, and the Army had most of the M4s.
Dragon has some fantastic kits of both of these AFVs.

Go with the M4A2 Dragon 6462 kit beach. You'll need to change the markings to the 40th though.

Thanks Coen, and yeah that's what I had read somewhere and was certain the marines aided the Philippines side of the conflict hence me jumping to the A2 assumption.
Also I second your Dragon kits being the best, and I see our friend had chosen the Dragon kits too... :th:

Thank you very much. :D. I would have to comb trough a lot of reference material to get more information though not a lot of pictures probably to go through and I doubt we'd have any in our museums. Thanks again very much!

Any ideas for materials I can find divisional markings and unit numbers?

Thank you I have the kit with me already, since it was on flood damage sale. I suppose, I'm not going to be using those "applique armor"wooden planks .

Thanks again! :bow::
