Was a great video. Ive done autobody on 1:1 cars (many years ago) so I was just wondering if maybe bringing the plastic up to temperature as we did in the paint booth would make any difference in the leveling of the clear. I may have to give this a shot when I do a car or something requiring a very smooth clear.

Good video, I've watched a few over the last couple of years and although I work with chemicals and have the correct face masks etc... at home I can't bring myself to use the 2k because I have read that you need air fed masks from a clean air source not a standard vapour mask as they don't filter the mist correctly. I don't know any better so I've just stayed away.

It does however look like there is less product used compared to when I use my 1k and the booth seems to cope better with the lower levels of bounce back mist. Knowing full well how much time is saved with 2k over 1k I'd love to try it but paranoia gets the better of me!

I liked your tip of storing the models away while they cure. I have two 75lb fur factories at home, so I needed to do something. My last solution was to just drape a buffing towel over the model. You gave me a better idea. Here is my solution.


My intention is the crack the lid every day for the first few days and switch out the air.

Also, the cap on my bottle of hardener broke as well. I glued it back together and it holding so far. Any liquid will also have a small amount of vapor as well. I suspect that the cap is affected by those vapors and is becoming more brittle. Could be just a coincidence, but the other caps are just fine.

One more thing.

Paul did something subtle that shouldn't be missed. He covered the unused (mixed) clear with a larger cup. Please don't think that just laying a stiff piece of paper over the mixing cup achieves the same result. Pouring the mixture out of the cup will undoubtedly leave some of the clear on the rim. Laying something directly onto the mixing cup can cause that bit of clear to stick to whatever is on it. In my case, after the second tack coat dried, I ended up with the rest of clear on the floor (and my foot). The paper stuck to the cup just enough to pick it up off of the bench. Didn't stick well enough to hold it for more than a second. You get the picture. Anyway, this is something that I didn't catch on about until it was too late. Don't be like me.

Happened to me too. It broke when I was trying to open the bottle (without gloves of course ) and I got some of the hardener on my bare skin.....Now I keep the stuff in a small glass bottle with a metal cap, works a lot better.
