Best method of chipping?

Post by DoubleDigit12 »

Hey guys I'm in the process of painting my T62 and I wanted to try out a new method of chipping. Usually I just lay down the base coat and go over that with the chipping colour using a brush or sponge. However this time I've put down a coat of dark brown using my airbrush and wanted to try a technique.

The techniques I had in mind were Hairspray/salt. If this is the best option which one is better?

I also know about the products like AK chipping fluid. Does anybody know if they are any good or if they work with Mr hobby paints?

Thanks
James

I've used Vallejo's chipping fluid a few times and I've found it's really good. Works well with MiG, Tamiya and Vallejo acrylics, so I presume it would work with any acrylics. I haven't even tried Hairspray/Salt techniques but from what I've seen, hairspray looks better to me.

Mig Ammo chipping fluid works great and comes in different types, scratches and chips.

Just remember to let the paint dry first and apply a varnish (preferably gloss) and let that dry well before applying the chipping fluid or you might start revealing bare plastic when you go to chip it.

Using hair spray and using chipping fluid is essentially the same thing and both should give similar results.
