Yeah, I’m not much for crowds either. Wasn’t too bad really, that was taken as we left. I’ve lived in the area 30+ years and today was the first time I’ve been there!! The planetarium is cool. Only problem was it was dark, peaceful music, soothing narraor’s voice and comfy reclined chairs. I think I only snored twice!!

I might as well throw my 2 cats in here, LOL!

Here we have Mama Kitty (grey) and Cole (yellow). Kitty will be 14 this year and Cole will be 1. He is almost twice her size already!

Image
Image

The patience of Mama Kitty is beyond words. Her tongue makes the picture even more funny! My 1.5 year old son did this, LOL!

Image

We will be in the market for a dog this year I think. It's been 2 years since our last dog, Rosie, passed. I miss her a LOT! This was her favorite place to sit, LOL!

My dog would like to do nothing better than chase those cats. It's not nice , but it's the truth. I like cats as well in fact I had only cats for pets for many years and I am only a recent convert to being a appreciator of dogs. He even catches the odd mouse if he can corner it and he looks ever so pleased with himself afterwards.
We have lots of wild feral cats roaming about these parts and they do kill a lot of wildlife. About the only good thing they do is catching rabbits.

Someone posted a while back we should all change our signatures to Shawshank references. I thought how cool, daft idea but still very cool!

Then I thought, hey, another daft idea - change the signatures to quotes from bomber centric movies. So much source material out there. Then I remembered I wouldn't have to change anything as I already have a quote from Battle of Britain for mine.

But it got me thinking.... what other quotes would be great to have instead? A personal favourite of mine is the scene from Memphis Belle when the navigator reports their position -

'Captain, we're exactly 5 miles south southwest of Yarmouth, we're in formation. This is the rally point.'

Then the music kicks in and you see all those wonderful shots of the B17s as they head out over the sea. Stirring stuff.

Just a thought for a wet Wednesday

http://framework.latimes.com/2014/08/22 ... o-die/#/14

" Thousands upon thousands of gallant war birds which fought America’s battles in the skies over Europe and the Pacific are coming to a broad desert plateau five miles from here to die among the cactus and sagebrush.

Covering five square miles and stretching for six and one-half miles along U.S. Highway 66, more than 7,000 retired Army bombers, fighters and training planes are parked row on row at the old Kingman Army Airfield, now Storage Depot 41 of the War Assets Administration.

In no other place in the world, said Carl W. Berg, supervisor of the depot, have so many aircraft been concentrated in one area at one time. Billions of dollars–and untold heroic victories in the clouds–are represented in the acres of fighting ships glinting in the Arizona sunshine.

Many of the ships with low flying time will be sold intact, either to be flown or to be salvaged for commercial ventures. But thousands more, the “war-weary” battlers of the blue, are being stripped of their equipment and will be crushed into scrap metal.

The planes began arriving from all points of the world last Oct. 10. During last December, one a minute landed at the depot, formerly a flexible gunnery training base with an Army population of 17,000 officers and men. …

Some of the big, four-engined ships limp in from overseas bases with one or two engines dead, barely arriving at their final resting place in one piece. A few, however, come almost directly off production lines, brand-spanking new – “boot” planes without a chance to show the world a combat record.

When they land, the Army obtains a release from the W.A.A., the blue-and-white United States insignia is painted out and they are taxied through the mesquite to await their fate.

Originally, 20,000 aircraft of all sorts were expected at the depot, but a month ago Army authorities reduced deactivation of planes to a trickle. The tense world situation was said to have influenced this decision.

Now only a few planes a day arrive at the depot and 20% of all craft with 100 or less flying hours are “pickled.” This means preservation oils are forced into their engines and movable parts are protected against corrosion and the elements. Such ships can be airborne within 24 hours, according to R. J. Perry, assistant supervisor."

Probably the best novel I have ever read

The story of a B17 crew flying from England in 1943. Heart stopping descriptions of air combat, evocative of the times and characters you fall in love with - almost from the first page.

You don’t need a Kindle, you can download a Kindle App from Amazon and read it on your pc or laptop. :th:

This is the kit I will be attempting Revells 1/72 Lancaster MKI/MKIII I will be doing the MKIII have a few aftermarket goodies interior set from Eduard, also the Eduard seat belts, Master replacement .303 machine gun barrels and some nice resin wheels from Aires.
I have heard people say the dihedral of the wings is incorrect and that the angle should be greater than that represented in the kit I may attempt a fix for this, but will do some research first.
This aircraft served with 100 Sqdn based at Elsham Wolds and took part in one of the last air raid operations on Germany being the lead formation aircraft on the raid to Hitlers lair of Berchestgarten , it survived the war and was signed off from the RAF in October of 1945.
Here are some of the photos of the box art and sprues and aftermarket goodies I look forward to the start of this S.,I.G build Image

Great pic of the forgotten bomber. I think they’ve got a Halifax wreck at Hendon, not sure if they’re restoring it or displaying it ‘as found’. Been a few years since I was last there.
