Wheels wanted

Post by MajorTom2004 »

Hi all.

For my upcoming project (scratch build of a Swiss aircraft tractor), I am desperatly searching for wheels.
Since I am not really in Military or Civil vehicles, I am bit lost.

A picture of the tractor and the wheels can be seen here:
https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mowag_Flu ... lepper.JPG
The Original size of the wheel is approx 770mm (outer dia) x 450mm (wheel rim dia) x 200mm (width), this is reduced to 1/48 approx 16mm x 9.5 mm x 4.2 mm).

Does anybody know, how I can get wheels as close as possible to these?

I prefer aftermarket parts if available, otherwise I would get a kit to just use wheels, learn how to duplicate parts in Resin or maybe someone has wheels she / he is willing to sell?

Any help is highly appreciated, thanks a lot!
Cheers
Thomas

Do you have a name for the tractor ?

Are you aware that you can get them 3d printed if they aren't available off the shelf

Hi digger.

Indeed a great site, I‘ll check it tonight.

The Tractor has a name, this is a Swiss product, built about 40 times, I don‘t think it is known outside of Switzerland.
It is a Mowag / AEG cooperation, the name is Flz Sch 4x2 (German abbrev for Aircraft Tractor 4x2)

Ordering 3D printed stuff from Shapeways is really expensive. Unless you have a very specific part you have modelled yourself it's almost silly expensive if you need high resolution.

I recently modelled a Kügelpanzer in Autodesk in 1/35 scale that I wanted printed with a DLP printer. The cheapest offer was $80...

Best thing is if you can find/borrow one wheel and make a mould of it and then cast all you need. It's actually quite simple today and you can buy cheap kits on eBay for doing just a small batch. The mould stuff is reusable too, just remelt it and use again. I can't remember the name of it but it's not expensive. Only snag is that you need the wheel first but it's a good skill to learn for us modellers!

If money is no worry and you've got a 3D model then Shapeways is a simple solution.

Edit: ok, I just checked the link to Shapeways and there were some good prices there but I doubt they would be printed with a DLP/SLA (resin) printer for that money. It's most likely going to be printed with a filament printer. If that's good enough then you're sorted!
