Tamiya 1/48 F4U-1A Corsair

Post by aur0ra145 »

Howdy!

First build in a bit. This will be a F4U-1A Corsair from VF-17 Jolly Rogers. I'm very excited to start this kit, I was holding off on starting anything new pending some real world stuff. Alas, it all worked out better than expected!

To start, I'll be doing this mostly out of box with the exception of some Montex Masks for the canopy. They reduce stress so much that I get them for nearly every kit now.

Really good detail in this kit so far. I'm very impressed with what I've seen.

Also, I'll be using my new DSLR to shoot all these shots. So this project won't only be developing my modeling skills but also my photography and editing skills.

Lots of progress today. Primed cockpit stuff in Ultimate matte black. Metal bits primed in Ultimate gloss black.

Black panels painted in MM Aircraft Instrument Panel Black. Green parts are MM Green Zinc Chromate. Drybrushing in Vallejo Model Air Steel. Other bits in Tamiya acrylic range.

Pictures are a bit underexposed. I just wanted to take a few fast pictures without having to set up my camera stand.

Got a lot more stuff done. Finished cockpit assembly. Got most everything else assembled and should be prepping for primer tonight.

I'm going with the wings folded version. I haven't ever done one that way; and, it takes up less room on the model shelf. Win-win I believe.

Primer on! Mostly painted!

Things are going well. Used Vallejo Model Air White, MM Dark Sea Blue and MM USN Blue Gray M-484.

Little bit of a drip on the engine cowl. Sanded it off and polished, then painted over. Looks good! This one is looking much better than the first Corsair I did at my return to the hobby 2-ish years ago.

Decals on!

Bits and bobs painted too. Very close to weathering and final assembly... I need to figure out which kit to start next!

It's finished!

Weathered with Vallejo pigments and washes. Turned out really well, I'm quite pleased!

That is awesome
Cannot believe I missed all the build process.
Looks like you are good and warmed up for building a bomber in May :thumb2:
