The hobbyzone modules and cutting mats, I have only recently, so it looks so new and clean.

But after each finished model is cleaned up first.

Otherwise I always have a certain basic order. I do not like working so much in chaos.

Same here. It's funny though how we "messy" people admire those who have the ability to keep work areas clean but can't work properly ourselves until we're in an organised chaos?

My new modelling area will have shelves upon shelves all around the desk area so I can put things I work on on it's own shelf rather than piling things a bit everywhere. This way I will be able to see some kits that are started - and forgotten - somewhere...? My only hope is that I'm going to be well enough to sit there and do my modelling instead of mostly being bedridden like I have been for the last 7 years.
Modelling in bed require a bit of planning, positive thinking and nobody to complain about kits everywhere in the bedroom - and lots of paper to take care of little accidents... Last summer I accidentally spilled a whole jar of Tamiya flesh tone paint in bed. It sucked but recovering from spinal surgery isn't fun and modelling helped me a lot so the price for a psychedelic duvet cover was worth it

I've even done pretty big electronics projects in bed these years, soldering pcb's and even surface mount jobs - it's all about doing what you can instead of just being miserable lying there!

I wish I one day have a clean space like the photo above but I honestly gave up trying many years ago simply because I work better in a cluttered area. I used to be known at work for having a really messy desk, but I was the one getting things done so they didn't complain

My, "shed", is an absolute tip at the moment, but this is my wee corner. Literally in a purpose built shed at the bottom of the garden.

I moved the Sherman to the shelf in my office.


It is joined by my Jeep and K2. Also making an appearance are my kiddo, Tungsten cubes, and a hunk of the Berlin wall.

Thankfully the ceiling is already done - it's an integral garage. I figure I could plasterboard the walls pretty easily. There's just the question of the gaps round the edges of the garage door... I might as well put out a little doormat that says "all spiders welcome".

maybe you can remember me from facebook and from youtube. Jan Machdal here.

I wasn't sure if I want to show my "working" "bench" and "stash". But after Paul's vid ( "At the bench" with Paul 9th June 2018 )I decided that I will.
Paul. I need to tell you something. My colleagues at work keep laughing, making jokes on me, because of my hobby which is modelling. Honestly, no joke. Lately all that crap started being little bit annoying. So I watched your vid today, and i have to say big thank you for your " life is too short and enjoy your hobby". Thank you.

So here we go. This is my "working" "bench". Nothing to brag about. Basically computer desk, with 27" screen and A5 modelmaker. We just bought our house and to be honest we have much, much more important things so sort for now.



Shelf above is for work in progress and some of my computer stuff ( i can fix computers )



At the back I have drawer which just recently I started using for my stuff. Not much, cant really afford shelves for now so it is just like that. It will change eventually.



Then, my "stash". 3 models. 1/48 B-1B Lancer from Revell. Got this one last week for my birthday from my wife. Love her But I'm still little bit scared to start building that one. It is massive plane. Then F-14 and F-18 1/48's from Monogram. Got them from friend from Canada. 10 can dollars both. Now I know why so cheap. They are horrible. A bit of challenge And my finished Schackleton.



And middle draw im using for some things I cant fit anywhere else.



I don't have spray booth or anything similar. I do airbrush in kitchen with patio doors open. And i'm using used, quite bad airbrush. Seals are gone so when i'm doing back flush airbrush cleaner leaking from everywhere.



And this is it. Enjoy and again, thank you Paul and all modelling gurus from youtube or facebook for yours help.

I get the funny looks from the wife's friends especially when she shows them the stash ( always reckon I have too many ...I say I just need a couple more)...always a little friction there. I don't care it makes me happy and out of the pub's. Not necessarily saving anything more, just redirected and she can keep an eye on me.
Plus at my age retirement is looming if I want and it pays to develop some interests out side of work then when it comes I won't be one of those who suddenly don't know what to do with themselves.

I get stick for everything at work because I don't do football, drinking and gambling. Stuff them all!

Yeah, it used to have two tubes in it. But for some reason, it died. So I stripped everything out and installed some led strips. I did the same thing for the black one too.

Do the led seem to change your color perception ?

They do produce very accurate colours. I think they are around 6000 degrees Kelvin so slightly above daylight. And as they are an SMD 2835 led chip they are super bright as well.
I have been trying to change the colour of the wallpaper and the carpet

How would one track down that smd chip. Is that a ebay possibilty ?

Well Guys,
I am soooooo jealous of the Hobby areas you have

At present I am limited to one quarter of the dining room table and a small (covered by a cloth) storage area in our lounge..

In order to explain, I got married last year & I moved into my new wife's house and the 3 bed house I lived in solo I have now sold and we have our house on the market and looking for somewhere new together and to house our brood!!.......

So most of 'crap' as the wife calls it has gone into a container, apart from my 'best' books and sentimental bits that have been stored in our loft.

My small stuff and model paints however went under a spare bed, but have now partly been moved to a small corner underneath a cloth in the corner of the lounge, and my 'New Stash' (stuff bought since last year ) is boxed up in my step sons bedroom (He is away at Uni at present)... I also have a few bits stashed in the garage...

Airbrushing is limited to Model Air at present, did try Tamiya Acrylics but the smell is just too much even with the patio door open on a good day...

Well Pictures of my stash in the main would be a bit boring as packing boxes are not too much fun to look at, but I do have a few pics on my 'Storage Container' taken so we can remember what went where hopefully!! when we come to unpack!!!

These are my 'Models' boxes and Hot Wheels collection about half way into the storage container... in these boxes somewhere are a number of Polar Lights Star Trek 1/1000 Kits (2 x NX.01, a couple of Klingon Battle cruisers, NCC 1701D & E and a refit I think, a bird of Prey and a couple of Shuttles, also a couple of 1/350 Kits, several car kits, a couple of Tamiya bike kits a shed load of GW LOTR stuff including my Masters Series Brush Box with Brass Bolton water pot, several Harry The Hammer specials and a couple of other ltd editions.
My Hot Wheels collection is also about there in the container, consisting of 10 - 12 HW boxes of 72 cars sorted into series and several archive boxes with Treasure Hunts, $$ Hunts, Redlines and lots of VW Drag Busses, Funny cars and limited editions lol.... somehow I think when we move they may have to move on!! I can't see the wife being happy to have those on show, so maybe keep a few fav's and sell the rest...



So currently most of my 'Stash' and tools and equipment, workbench, big compressor, spray booth etc etc etc are all out of reach and getting to anything is a real pain...

Just hoping the house sells and when we move I can sort everything out and have a proper Hobby area / Man Cave... However when we move I can't see that being the first thing that gets sorted

So that's my little entry... don't have the space at the minute but never dampens my enthusiasm

Most of us started at the kitchen table or in a dingy basement. I started back in a spiderweb unheated garage on a sheet of plywood

Like many modelers, my modeling space is multi-purpose. It's where I work at my day-job as a historian, where the family paperwork is dealt with and where I make models. Consequently the modeling space has to be kept clear for other activities and my modeling stuff is mixed in with everything else. This is what it looks like when the space is being used for modeling.



Almost all my tools are kept in this oversize tool box which I bought many years ago. The advantage of this is that I can take it and go outside (in the warm weather) to do some modeling or I can take it to club nights or to the club display day and do some work there.



Here's a closer view of my working space. The top two levels of shelves are the models I'm working on, the little plastic boxes on the shelf below are for the loose part of those models (so the cats can't make off with any of the pieces) and below them is the tray in which I keep all the glues, paints and etc that I'm currently using. On the shelf above the computer screen are tools of my other trade, a dictionary or two, a thesaurus and a style guide.



Here's what I'm working on at the moment: a NC900 (a French Fw190), an Air New Zealand DC-8-52 (almost completed) three started F-27s and, on the shelf below, another F-27 which will be finished in Airlines of South Australia scheme, a US Navy Fw190G-3,an ICM Ilyushin Il-62 and, hiding right at the back so I don't have to look at it too often, a Mach 2 Aerospatiale Ecuriel.



I do my painting out in our garage which is built as part of the house so it's not an outside trip. As well there is storage for things like after-market decals, masks and paint as well as history related stuff. On the right side is what I call my 'Treasure', boxed up to keep it snug and warm with the kits easily found because everything is on a database. Note the gas mask close at hand to protect my delicate lungs.



Here's the painting area in close up. The only action at the moment is decanting a Tamiya rattle can into a dropper bottle in the ISM approved manner. I have two airbrushes that I use regularly, a Badger Patriot which I use for large volume painting and a Badger Sotar for more detailed work. (You can keep your fancy and exotic named airburshes, I reckon I could field strip and reassemble the Patriot blindfolded in a muddy field and it would still work properly.)



Here is what the workspace looks like when I'm doing other work. You can see I'm doing other things because the tool box is closed.



Here's what it looks like when I turn the light on. As well as being an outstanding magnifying glass it also turns into an excellent desk lamp. It's probably the most useful and expensive piece of modeling equipment I've bought (including airbrushes and compressor).

Well a little update on my man cave

The wife's house has 'Sold' YES !!!! and we have had an offer accepted on our new house so this morning I am a Happy Modeller lol...

The previous owners converted the tandem garage into a proper office space for 4 people, centrally heated off the main system and with a small kitchen area, but the business has now expanded and they are moving on. It is all fully wired out with Network cables and 3 compartment trunking..

So here are a couple of pics of my new man caves... and I have a HUGE shed too so all my junk can go in there and these 2 rooms will be my Motorcycle storage and modelling area.....

I even have a little kitchen through the door in the room where the drums are for making my cups of Yorkshire Tea and where my beer fridge will go... Woo Hoo!!

These are the pics from the estate agents details, so this in not our stuff lol...

This is room No 1, the door to the right goes into the kitchen and the desk thing that can just be seen to the right already has 3 compartment trunking and 4 sockets...




This is room No 2, this was the front section of the garage and the door leads into the kitchenette area, my Trumph Bonneville will reside where the drums are currently, all warm,dry and living on carpet lol..

Well the process in the UK is slow even though we are cash buyers and may be 8 to 12 weeks, I am hoping closer to the 8 and will push for sooner if possible..

My man-cave is chock full of books and art equipment (not to mention the bass guitar, its amp and other musical bits and bobs) after moving in and is in serious need of sorting. The pile of kits I've accumulated in the past couple of months is sitting in the middle of it. I'm currently building in the lounge room with hovering pets being a constant presence. I need to get this cave organised.

Well Guys the 'Great' pack up has begun!!

Had last Friday and Monday off work as it was our Wedding Anniversary (1st) on Saturday and we went to Liverpool over the weekend and spent time at The Cavern and Museums and pubs... some more pubs.. a couple more pubs...
We visited a place called The Philharmonic (which is really just another pub lol, but has an awesome historic interior) came back Sunday as we couldn't get the Sunday night in the Hotel due to a mix up with some coach party and that they were over-booked!!

I have to say, I have no idea how a Hotel can Over-Book!!!, how can you accept booking's for 250 rooms when you only have 230!!! sounds like a con to me and someone is going to get let down every time!! ... We had tried to book the Sunday night since last week, but could book Thursday to Sunday or Sunday to Tuesday but not Thursday to Monday or Friday to Monday!!!.... apparently something to do with how the booking systems work!! So went for the Thursday to Sunday and a promise they would book us into the Sunday on arrival, but that didn't work!! Still overbooked! Tried again Friday & Saturday but no luck....

But Hey Ho! We had a great time, met some great Liverpudlians (is that a word!!) and a had great drive back down the A41 on Sunday and went to the Pub & had a Curry...lol...

Well of course this gave us Monday free.. .. so of course I was instructed by SWMBO to pack up my Modelling S**t as it is so lovingly called

So here is my latest modelling area... as you can see its a back in the box version of a "Man Cave" for now!! There are also 3 other of the smaller plain boxes in the garage with the other parts of my stash 'very' carefully packed into...

I have to say I had few conundrums about how to pack certain models as I don't want the boxes to get squashed, especially the Tamiya 1/12 Bikes as when (eventually) I get round to building some of those I want to frame the box art for the man cave walls!!

Had to run out to B&M Home Bargains as well and pick up a couple of extra Really Useful Boxes as it seems my tools & paints & Bits n Bobs have grown a little lol....

In case it helps anyone else Ultimate Bottles Thinner & AB Cleaner only fit in the "Really Useful" 18L boxes as the bottles are 152mm tall and don't go into any of the smaller RU Boxes...Well except for some weird one with a drop out front that B&M don't stock anyways!!

The Sparmax compressor is ready to go back in the box, but the box is in the loft and it was about a million degrees Centigrade up in the loft yesterday!!! so I will fetch that down later today after work lol...

Just need to finish off packing up my paints now, but frustrated a little, as I did order some foam trays from BattleFoam on the 6th July and they have still not arrived and my order is still showing as "In Production" on the website!! they were supposed to have been "In Stock"!!!!!!

Well Guys the 'Great' pack up has begun!!

Had last Friday and Monday off work as it was our Wedding Anniversary (1st) on Saturday and we went to Liverpool over the weekend and spent time at The Cavern and Museums and pubs... some more pubs.. a couple more pubs...
We visited a place called The Philharmonic (which is really just another pub lol, but has an awesome historic interior) came back Sunday as we couldn't get the Sunday night in the Hotel due to a mix up with some coach party and that they were over-booked!!

I have to say, I have no idea how a Hotel can Over-Book!!!, how can you accept booking's for 250 rooms when you only have 230!!! sounds like a con to me and someone is going to get let down every time!! ... We had tried to book the Sunday night since last week, but could book Thursday to Sunday or Sunday to Tuesday but not Thursday to Monday or Friday to Monday!!!.... apparently something to do with how the booking systems work!! So went for the Thursday to Sunday and a promise they would book us into the Sunday on arrival, but that didn't work!! Still overbooked! Tried again Friday & Saturday but no luck....

But Hey Ho! We had a great time, met some great Liverpudlians (is that a word!!) and a had great drive back down the A41 on Sunday and went to the Pub & had a Curry...lol...

Well of course this gave us Monday free.. .. so of course I was instructed by SWMBO to pack up my Modelling S**t as it is so lovingly called

So here is my latest modelling area... as you can see its a back in the box version of a "Man Cave" for now!! There are also 3 other of the smaller plain boxes in the garage with the other parts of my stash 'very' carefully packed into...

Good luck with the move Alex.
I moved all my modelling and hobby stuff myself in my own vehicles so I had no one else to blame if things got broken or lost..and they didn't.
The moving guys did all the heavy furniture and house junk as I like to call it
I should have moved the Tv's as they managed to F one up somehow.
