Attachment images !

Post by NorthernModeller »

Hello all, When we are uploading images to build threads and such, can we please use a 3rd party hosting service for the images as directly attaching images as files sucks up a huge amount of bandwidth. When the Forum goes offline it is for that reason so if we can do our best to use the likes of Flickr that would be much appreciated.

We should probably look at Flicky alternatives too.
Just found this one
https://500px.com/
Can upload 20 images per week on the free plan, and can share to blogs , web pages and social media.
Probably give it a try, and report back ...... something I cant put my finger on about Flick, and it may be putting others off.
If it`s got a Dragon or a Dwarf in it .....I`m out ! :pistols:

This is a random pic linked from https://www.deviantart.com/
Many seem to assume its an artist/drawing type site but it is used for photography uploads also.
doesnt seem to be a limit on uploads... free .... found it `slightly` tricky to work out linking to here. but seems fine, no probs signing up.

Be careful with the URLs of the images that are made available from any new site you try. Sometimes they are temporary and will disappear after a few days. I'm not sure if it is a problem with the examples posted above or not. The link to the 500px image looks OK. The link to the deviantart image looks like it is stored on Google and is one of their temporary links. Check back here in a few days to see if both images still appear.

I use Imgur. URLs seem to stick for years and you can set the privacy for your posts on the website; but still be able to host on other sites like here.

Thanks for the heads up , just trying to road test a few alternatives , now that the options seem to be shrinking a bit.
If it goes belly up, I`ll delete the post. :cheers2:

I've just found something called Postimage.org and it seems great for posting images hear. No shortening code just click for a proper link... Can you all see this?

Shows up fine .... what was the sign up process like? The more options the better when you lose a big player like mukbucket.
You only have to revisit a few forums from your faves folder.....they are decimated.

(EDIT) its gone.

Hardly any sign up procedure. You tell them your email address and they send you a password. That's it!
