this will be my first SiG or group build for quite some time so fingers crossed.

New kit from Revell, the Wellington MKII, old memories for me building one of these when i was but a nipper back sometime last century.

All pretty standard stuff, looks like a nice wee build. [Note to self: Dont jinx it before you start it!]

The Plastic, comes in a single plastic bag, no staples..which is nice.

Fuselage on the A sprue is nice and crisp, Wings on the B sprue look fantastic.You can tell this is a relatively new kit. 2014 according to Scalemates.

SNAP UPDATE

First off Thank you Scott for hosting this for us reprobates With you hosting the show itll be a whole load of fun, looking forward to it all. your gonna have to teach me the ways of the Giff.

a quick perusal thro the instructions and it seemed like a good idea to apply lashings of Ultimate Primer Black. You can see the sprues in there, right at the back, no no the back of the spray booth, behind that hunk 'o junk,in front of the headless cylon. You can see why i occasionally moan about the backlog at the paint shop

Love the Wimpy a real iconic and much overlooked aircraft that made a considerable wartime contribution my old air cadet wing wing commander had been a flight engineer on them. Will be interested to see how this builds I have the new Airfix one will be interesting to compare them

UPDATE

starting this out easy. after painting the internals black and grey this is what the instructions look like for the next stage. Being a 1:72 scale kit there is not much too it.

I gathered all the required bits and pieces for a photo. you can see I have already masked and sprayed the mullions of the fuselage windows.

decided im not even going to weather the interior because its going to be helluva dark in there.

the above shot shows; fuselage glazing fitted, bases of the nose and tail turrets assembled and base colours down (surprise surprise Black and Grey),
cockpit floor and bulkhead with decals applied, control panel decaled and lastly the rear wheel well.

All pretty simplistic for what the kit is representing, don't expect any more from this kit, what you see is what you get.

Now, when you get to steps 16 & 17 things get tricky/interesting/oh bugger [delete as appropriate]. shown below is all the parts needed to complete a turret.

and with the magic of television cursing and swearing asside this is the only picture worth showing, my best go at it. there is no easy way to do this, its all just apply glue and wish you had tiny octopus hands.

bottom and glazing have not been glued together at this stage though they have been placed in a safe location till the glue has fully cured. the following stages require the wing wheel wells to be glued into position.

The "Z" sprue is keyed to this particular mark of the Wellington bomber, giving us the cowlings for the Merlin engines. I expect a different "Z" sprue included for other marks based off of this kit.

said cowlings showing the internal detail inserted into the cowling scoop. I use the word "detail" loosly. Oh and there is no locator pins or channel to help you out. I dropped them in after assembling the two halves and applied glue as necessary.

UPDATE at long last

ok after technical difficulties, laptop and mobile phone both deciding to play silly buggers, i reinstalled reconfigured and re combobulated damn near everything. Except flikr....flikr took two hours today for me to log back into the right account...seems i setup two somehow, lol...pilot error!

ANYWAYS - with a handy selection of AIZU tape of differing thicknesses i set to masking the turrets.

handy project box used to help maintain the dyhedral while glue cures. A bit of fuss getting the fuselage together....not enough hands to hold turrets inplace and align the cockpit section. Lack of positive location tabs so care is needed.

a wee bit of a jump forward, here she is looking resplendent. Al major components in place. Everything masked off ready for primer coat next. I did loose one of the guns off the front turret while doing all this, salvaged from the carpet monster and will be attached at the end.

And there she rested, covered over till the machine uprising was quelled.
Now we await favourable weather conditions. Thats the thing about hot summer days........they are JUST TOO DAMN HOT!!! dont trust to get a good coat of paint down just yet.

She's looking good, agree with you about the hot days but not complaining we don't see the big yellow ball all that often in the North of Scotland.


Just one wee point.... I know 1/72 is small but would it not have been a bit easier to cut thin strips of masking tape put round the edges and you a mask fluid. Just a thought
