I am not one to complain about shops online and generally like to solve any issues with the shop directly as I appreciate things can go wrong, but I wondered what people's thoughts were on modelhobbies.co.uk?

I use them quite often as they generally seem to have the best price for aftermarket items I can find in the UK but something I find immensely frustrating is that with every order there always seems to be some items that are in fact not in stock, despite me being able to buy them.

I should say I always get an automatic refund so the money isn't the problem (although potentially it may ultimately cost more as I need to pay two lots of shipping as I need to order from two places), it just gets frustrating as it seems to happen all of the time and I would prefer stock to be correct in the first place

They are utter shite. Used them many times and had several times when they’ve not had something in stock and don’t even bother telling and leave you hanging and twice I’ve had to PayPal dispute them

Good to know you've had similar experiences.

This time was particularly annoying as I bought the Eduard Folgore kit along with a some aftermarket for it, but they didn't have the kit, so refunded that but I'm still getting the aftermarket . This is the second shop to do this with this kit as well, luckily I have found it elsewhere now, third time lucky hopefully as I can't find it anywhere else now! :)

Same story here. :bash: Their web site must be the only one that lets you buy stuff that's NOT in stock  Over a year ago they told me that they would be getting a new web site, obviously it is not a priority :wall:

They're not alone Wonderland Models are the same, they do have a "not in stock" but either they don't update it or the system is crap. You order pay and you think that's it a day or so later you get an email there's an out of stock, with a date months away for it to be in stock do you want to wait, all items held which is annoying. You aren't charged but you have to ring/email to get the others items and pay. I think I've placed 6 orders with It happened on 5 of them.

I accept they will go out of stock in which case you can't order, what they're doing is getting (confirmed sale) the order then going off and getting the stock it's all about cash flow, in my opinion. Just don't let me order!

I've stopped using them and told them why!

Personally I've never had any issues with Modelhobbies.

I've not had a problem like this with Wonderland or Modelhobbies but have heard from others that did.

I did have similar issues with Wayland games a couple of years back though when I ordered something listed as "available" on their website thinking that meant that they actually might have one in stock.

Their definition of "Available" meant that the item wasn't in stock but was available for them to order... turns out that wasn't true either as I cancelled the order after a couple of months and got the same thing from Spain within a week.

Haven't used them since.

I ordered about 6 times from ModelHobbies in the past year, no issues. Then my last order I was missing an item. I email them, no response. I give it a week and try again. I am told the item is on backorder. I asked for a refund and passed on my disappointment for not telling me upfront. No response. I opened a PayPal dispute and tried to work with them - zero response. In the end I won the PayPal dispute and PayPal refunded me my whole order - $80, when I was only missing a $5 piece. Being the honest guy I am I emailed them asking them to send me the total of the missing item with the shipping and I would immediately refund them the extra. Once again zero response. There loss - I did my best to communicate with them. But in the end there lack of communication has cost them $$$. I will not be buying from them again.

I always thought it was weird how they shipped from the Netherlands, when they are a .co.uk and UK based company. I figured it is a tax savings for them or something.

Do they are you sure, I've ordered things from them many times, it's always had UK postage or courier never had anything to my knowledge from the Netherlands.: :
