#47 alextheblue...twist, twist...Dam, I'm Bust!! Reveal

Post by alextheblue »

Finally I've managed to get some pictures taken and post them to the reveal section. It's a nice kit and despite the problems that I had, I have really enjoyed being part of the SiG. There's some phenomenal work going on and I must admit, I felt a bit of a fraud taking part. But that's never stopped me from doing anything before, so I wasn't going to let it this time!

The kit is Airfix's 1/72nd scale Lancaster bomber, adapted to replicate the famous aircraft that took part in Operation Chastise, including the famous bouncing bomb. Whenever I look at one of these planes, I am always reminded of Sir Barnes Wallace's reaction when he was told about the casualties and losses. He broke down in tears and his first thought was of all the lives that were lost and not of the success of the operation.

In my own clumsy and ham-fisted way, this is my tribute to that great man and all the great men that took part in Operation Chastise.

A big thank you to everyone for their encouragement and kind words and a massive thank you to Scott for hosting the SiG. With all the comments and posts, not to mention fighting off evil spammers  , I'm surprised you've had time to get on with your own build (it's looking great by the way! :cheers2: )

Thanks for taking a look! :th:

Very nice work mate - especially around the black sections where it's always difficult to get detail to show up.

Great finish

Looks beautiful, great work mate! There’s a museum near me that has a Lancaster that does engine run ups and taxis, it’s an amazing sight, especially when you imagine a whole group of them setting off on a mission!

Thanks Neil. :th: The black fought me a bit, and to be fair, the photo's do it more justice than it deserves.

Thanks chief! :cheers2: I've never seen one up close. but a few years ago there was a fly-past in Windsor that I dragged the wife to. Tons of iconic aircraft on display, but the lanc really got the hairs on the back of your neck standing up. Incredible sight! :th:
