1/18 M48 Light Tank

Post by DRUMS01 »

Some time ago Digger asked me to post one of my 1:18 toy tank modeling reworks, so here is one of them:

- total repaint from winter to standard issue
- scratch built interior (hull and turret)
- scratch built all drivers controls and gauges
- numerous after market boxes, rolls, and tarps
- removed plastic blobs and replaced with proper scale grab rail / stow points
- added hatch handles and drivers hatch pivot stops
- added canvas mantlet cover, bolts, etc.
- added loaders periscope cover protection
- added bore brush rods on left turret
- added aiming stakes to front slope
- added fender bracing
- added "x" bracing to side storage box
- corrected rear exhaust
- corrected barrel storage lock
- added full engine detail
- added full sponson box storage items (maps, RBC, bore brush, rations, map case, rags, etc.)
- dirty enamel wash and pastels...
- other stuff I cannot remember....

Still on the ledge as to wether I should scribe each track link in the rubber track (?)
Still deciding if it should show a more extreme wear and weathering (?)

Your feedback or comments are encouraged.....

v/r,

Ben

Very nice and an unusual scale or at least I've not seen one before. :th:

You did a very nice job of this, especially if it was a toy to begin with. Who makes these things? I wish I'd had a toy like this when I was young(er).

Nordus,

Thank you for the kind words. As for the vehicle, in the USA they were marketed by a company called 21st Century Toys. I believe they are no longer produced but you can still find them on secondary markets like eBay, Amazon, etc. Originally they were priced around $49.00 (USD) but now they reflect a price somewhere over $100.00. Out of the box they were devoid of most of the detail shown on mine.
