We are just avoiding thinking about fuselage and turrets at the moment....keep calm and model on sort of thing

So trying to figure the rear crew door and how it opens. Hunting though pics and it appears to open inward and towards the rear.
Here are my best research pics so far



maybe not a Sterling??



In all these photos with an open door, I see it looking like it is inward, no door on the external of the fuselage
So that is how I am going to do mine

Found a couple more pics that seem to back up your theory about the way the crew door opens so I think you're definitely going the right way with that (usual disclaimers apply if someone that actually knows what they're talking about shows up!)

So I have finished the front turret.
I added thin styrene strips on top of the glass to make reinforcing metal frame. Then some tiny drops of white glue on a pin to make the little rivets. Green paint and then a silver drybrush.




Pretty happy with it, but it doesn’t fit if you don’t put the turret in before the fusealge sides go together. So I run the risk of destroying the barrels etc with filling seams, sanding and painting.

Gonna just forge ahead and finish all the gun turrets, then brainstorm on how to get them in there

good job on the turret not that you need me to say that, but it is nice. Be a shame to wreck them when your trying to close it up properly, filling seams and what not. I'm sure you will find a way.

A Friday well spent, working on upper turret.
The upper turret kit glass has a crack and a round ejector pin mark on the inside
Found this pic of the nose one with a vent in the glass....so decided to use that and make a circular vent over the ejector pin area


Covered most of the crack with the thin styrene framework, white glue rivets, paint, silver wash
A circle of Tamiya tape painted silver and then black felt pen wedges make the vent...Future added overtop of the tape to harden it and protect the felt pen. Entire turret gets a future dip as well.





and then there was one.....Tail gun Charlie

This second pic IS a Sterling rear cannon



I lopped off the guy’s torso, arms and legs to leave the grey circle and base for the gun
Then added 3 mm of styrene so that the clear glass comes out far enough to clear the gun...not sure how it would have worked otherwise


The white areas will be opened up and the side glass added to them




Now the guns will clear the front glass. Bit if clean up work left , but moving the right direction

Preparing reclaimed plywood for my workshop shelves....cutting, sanding, filling and now oil primed the boards. Lot of work!
I have fixed a warped side entry door frame, got that into a first layer of paint
Gone about the house spackling holes from dings and such...mostly mine

So every once in a while, I pop up and do a bit of the Sterling and then the motorcycle.
You got your fields all fertilized now??

This is exactly the reason I commandeered an upstairs room. I cannot model and woodwork together, so will keep them separate.
The workshop will be for tinkering, leather and assembly woodwork. I will keep the big woodworking machines in the garage on wheels and make a mess in the driveway or garage.
The upstairs Nerd Lab will stay Models only but I have a project for a secondary spray booth in the workshop...with a furnace blower motor that can probably peel crome off a tail pipe.
I do need about two weeks holidays just to get all my home projects done....ain’t gonna happen this summer

The work on the turrets is outstanding, your work masking them off so as you don't cover it over will be incredible!

Blimey I've not been paying attention - awesome work on the turrets mate!

I really hope you figure out a way of getting the fuselage knocked into shape without bending them up - I guess front and rear are reasonably doable, but the mid-upper is a real challenge...

I am dragging my azz detailing out the turrets to avoid fusealgeammegaddon.
SO far my best bet is sticking the gun barrels into foam and then tape up the turrets and cementing them in.
I keep fitting them one side at a time and then closing the fuselage so I can see where my challenge areas will be...and they are there
I might actually prime and paint the external areas directly around the three guns before the fuselage goes together

Holy cow, four pages deep...I have been working on her, honest
She is 360* puttied up.....3M Bondo with MLT thinning itout and keeping a finer line of filler. I will tape the edges and scrape/sand it smooth.
I primed the tail parts Ultimate grey as well

I have finished with the seams on wings and tail, but the big centre fuselage seam is next..and then trying to re-create surface rivets and panel lines I destroyed.
