Seatbelt Material??

I picked up some ribbon this morning and was wondering if it would work for seatbelts. The box says 3.2mm, but they are a bit bigger.





I figured for $0.97 it was worth a try. If it works that is a lifetime supply for me. For [mention]Paul[/mention] l probably only a month or two, but for me this is all I would ever need!

It depends on what seatbelts you're modelling and the scale I'd guess (i could only see it working in aircraft of 1/32 or 1/24). You might want to consider the "furry" factor of cotton and wax it before installing it as a seatbelt (its why I didn't use cotton thread for aircraft rigging in the past). Check how it takes to being painted as well. But why not give it a try. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Oops, I forgot to mention, I was intending for 1/24 cars. But I suppose it could work on larger scale aircraft. I wouldn't paint, just use red or pick up a different spool if I needed a new color.

Yes 1/24 cars would definitely work to my eye. Happy experimenting.

Ok, I wasn't sure. But, I may try having a look at the fabric store now that I know what width to look for.

'Serious' race belts are usually 3in wide, or 75mm, so scaling it down by 24, you end up with 3mm as Paul quite rightly suggests.
