Hello from Oxford, soon to be Munich!

Hello everyone,

I thought I'd introduce myself.
I’m Alex, a mechanical engineer working in the automotive design industry.
I’m currently living and working in Oxford, UK, however, my company has decided to close its’ UK office, so I’m being transferred to our Munich office in September this year.

I have recently started back in the model making hobby after many, many years. Probably about 26 years or so since I last built an Airfix aeroplane kit in my parents’ garage.
I found ISM through the Youtube videos, which really whetted my appetite for scale modelling again.

I’ve decided to work in 1:48 or larger this time, as previously as a kid I only built 1:72 WWII aircraft. My main interest still seems to be WWII aircraft.
When I lived in Germany as a student I bought the Revell 1:48 Junkers Ju52/3m g 4e kit, which I never started. With that I want to get some PE detailing aftermarket and do a small diorama of the Ju52 being loaded or unloaded on an airfield.
But to get myself into the hobby again I bought the Airfix ‘Dogfight Doubles’ 1:48 Spitfire Mk.Vb & BF109E. I was actually quite impressed by the quality of the kits, not like the Airfix of my childhood. You only get one decal option for each aircraft, but 2 good quality 1:48 fighters in one box for £25 is not bad at all. I bought some turned gun barrels for each aircraft, and have started with the BF109E.

Actually, I work for SHARP, designing LCD displays for the automotive industry.
Our head-office in Japan will "officially" say this is nothing to do with Brexit, but everyone knows it is at least why they started to evaluate having an office in UK, if not the main reason for closing the office.
I also think we will see more and more multi-nationals closing UK branches.

But enough about politics…

… I’m looking forward to beer and sausages and public transport that runs on time.

Another stray lamb returns to the fold. 1/48 is a great scale to work with. It gives you room to breathe and add detail which can be quite limiting in 1/72 or more demanding in 1/32. Don't rush the first kit back modelling and enjoy yourself. I look forward to seeing pix of the completed builds.

You will be blown away by what has happened to modelling in 26 years with internet and computerization
Super easy to start spending a ton of money on kits and stuff now that you are an adult modeller, but that is part of the fun
