Okay so this will be my third entry into this build class.
Another oldie but goldie.

It will be out of the box mostly, should be fun.

In my excitement I forgot to show the instructions and tell you which one I was building.
So here it is and the yellow highlighted sections are the ones relavent to my build.


This is the one.





I quickly started to assemble sub-assemblies only to find the rear console had to be sanded to fit in.
I will put two pilots in to hide the fact there is next to no detail.

The panel lines are faint and raised, I was hoping that the fit would be okay so I could keep the raised panel lines.
Due to poor fit and misalignment, it means that I will have to re-scribe the faint panel lines.


As my eye sight is not so good I thought that spraying the model black would make it easier to see the panel lines.



And so the scribing begins.

I am not great at this!

So with the wings done I move on to the curved surfaces, the fuselage.
I have used a plastic set square, old Dymo tape and for the fuselage a metal template.


The tail next.

As the kit dates back to the 1980's I think, the engine detail is basic just a single compressor fan.
I have painted this black.

Then painted silver.

To give the illusion of fan blades I paint Citadel Leadbelcher ( gun metal to you and me) fan blades on.

Compressor fans fitted and wings glued together.

While waiting for the paint to dry the nose cone is dry-fitted and filled with weight. (rail track ballast from my local train/ model shop)

Then glued on.
The fan blades are dropped in the engine nacells and the wing halves glued together.
To get the front engine cover to fit a lot of sanding and dry-fitting had to be done.


Times two.

Tail pipe cover on, this was no problem.
Then once dry a lot of sanding and dry-fitting to get to this stage.



She is starting to take shape now but some more filling and sanding ahead.
Fun build so far.

So this morning I continued with some more scribing of the rear tail planes, once done they were glued on.



More sanding to be done.
Once done I turn my attention to the wing-root gap.

I cut thin strips of Tamiya masking tape to fit the contour of the curve.


Then covered the surrounding area so the panel lines do not get filled in.

Filler was added to the gap and the excess was removed with cotton buds soaked in water.

To help with weight balance I put a small wall of filler to the front of the fuel cell, once dry this was filled with railway ballast.


Every little helps.
Now dry the filler was sanded flush and the tape removed.

The fuel cell was glued on, but more filler was needed.

After the filler had dried it was sanded flush and a coat of matte black was applied to the model.


Back to building and the office was competed as per instruction section 13 (canopy left off till the end).

Time to paint two Airfix 1/72 pilot figures from the spares box.

The radarman's console was blank so I cut up some old decals from the spare decal sheets.


With both pilots legs removed in they went.

Top glued on and clamped and taped till dry.

So today I removed the tape and clamp and filled the gaps, then ran some black paint over the plane.

Today I am trying a new technique for me, pre-shading/modulation technique. I have sprayed heavily thinned white paint over the black surfaces of the aircraft.
NOT A NIGHT FIGHTER!

On with my new technique, to me, of the modulation/pre-shading method.
As the temperatures have been so hot lately I have been mixing paint with isopropyl alcohol which I bought off e-bay.
The results for me so far have been very good. YOU MUST WEAR A MASK WHEN SPRAYING THIS STUFF.
So the underside of the aircraft is sprayed Tamiya XF-83 Medium Sea Grey.

These are the results.



I shall spray some of the top camo tomorrow.

You do the quality and I do the quantity and I have to work my way through my model stash.
I have to build 7 models per month over the next 10 years to get through them all, and that's if I stop buying any more.

Not the best day for spraying but it is my day off.
First I mask the underside of the plane and mask the canopy next, the framework is a little soft in places but I manage.

I will be using Isopropyl alcohol for mixing my paints as the temperature is high again!
England in the summer. Use a good mask when spraying with this stuff.
My first coat of paint will be Tamiya XF-82 Ocean Gray.

I am trying to get colour modulation, so thin coats of paint are needed.

I part mask with Blu-tac and free spray the rest as the paint is thinned to a ratio of 80% alcohol to 20% paint and applied using very low pressure, approximately 10 psi.


Using the same ratio of paint thinner I spray Hobby colour H 422 RLM 82 light green for more modulation.

Voilà



The nose is painted Tamiya XF-85 Rubber Black.

So here is a poor part of the kit as there are no locating holes for pins and poor instructions, so I had to look at other people's finished models of this kit to find where to place parts.
So this is what she looks like with the wheels on.

Now for a coat of Tamiya clear and on with the decals.



Once dry the decals are sprayed with a clear coat.
After that has dried my usual mix of matte clear and white is sprayed onto the model, picking out high points and panels.

And that is the model done.
