Revell 1/72 Type IX C/40 U-Boot U-190 final reveal

Post by MarkVerploeg »

Hi guys
So here is the full reveal of my U-190 a Type IX C/40 WWII U-Boot
Overall not a bad kit with the exception of the part where the hull front and rear meet up
I had some serious work there and honestly it still shows a bit (if you know where to look)
But i think a more exoerienced ship modeller can make this look really good
But then again as a utter ship building noob i am happy with how it turned out

So here she (that is gow you talj about a ship right?) is

The full picture
Hard to do with a 106 cm long ship (i guess about 3.5 foot long)

In the end i used 1 after market part and that is the flag
Not so much because of the swastika on it but the decal from the kit to make the flag cracked (revell folded the dang decalsheet :o )
So i had to use a spare one i had left

So that is all i have for this one
Thanks for stopping by and having a look
Take care
Cheers
Mark

very nice build, regardless of your experience with nautical stuff.

You should be very proud of her.

Thank you very much Ben
There isn't much on this one but rigging is one of the things that keeps me away from ships
That and the fact that most cool ship kits are huge ,cost a pretty penny and take ages to properly build

thank you very much Digger
It's a prettt good kit and for the size and amount of styrene not that expensive (over here)
The weird thing is that my wishlist is actually getting shorter
I have most tanks i wanted in the stash ,just about every jet i like and nearly all the helicopters i want
The only stuff that is left on the list is usually quite expensive like a 1/48 SU-34 Fullback or SU-33 Super Flanker
Or just plain and simple too big to put anywhere like most 1/16 tanks
Wich are very expensive aswell

Thabk you very much
It is a pretty nice kit
Just be carefull when you glue the front and rear of the hull together
I had a pretty nasty seam there and there is a row of rivets right next to it
The only thing i really changed was to drill and cut out all the big vent ports of the tanks
It takes a couple of hours but in my opinion well worth the efford
Good luck with your build

I would like to build a sub, that one and one of those Japanese subs with the aircraft on board in 1/72. I'd be happy with that if I could dress them up paint wise as good as yours. :th: :th: :cheers2:

Thanks Digger
Painting it wasn't that hard to do but at first it really looked like a toy
With some pre or post shading it starts to look better and then some chipping and some washes to finish it
That is what i did anyway

Great Job Mark. This could be the next kit on my bench.

Never built a Sub before did a 1/35 Schnellboot a few years back which is a similar length to the Sub and seeing your finished model I’m very tempted.

Thank you
It is a pretty good kit
Allthough a bit smaller in scale then what i am used to ,i make 1/48 and 1/35 kits most of the time
The only bad thing i had was a huge seamline where the front and rear hull parts go together
Other then that is is a pretty easy going build

Same here only usually build 1/35 military models but have a few 1/32 and 1/48 aircraft in the stash.

I mostly build planes in 1/48
And 1/35 for armor allthough i considered switching to 1/48 for that aswell but at that time there wasn't a whole out there in terms of after market or building/structure kits so i didn't make the switch
Besides i had quite a lot of 1/35 kits allready
