Tracking down model kit - Mazda 787B

Post by m1tch »

Hi all,

One of my goals with modelling (although only just started) is to build up a Mazda 787B in 1/24 scale, I know that Tamiya make 2 models - 24112 for #55 and 24326 for #18 and I also know that Hasegawa make a slightly less detailed kit - 20312.

I saw that the Tamiya #18 kit was for sale at around £30 but is out of stock, not seen the the original #55 kit for sale anywhere as I believe the #55 kit was made in the early 90s with the #18 kit being made in the early 2000s.

Just trying to track down a model for me to actually buy brand new for the Mazda 787B - I know I can get a 1:12 kit by MFH for around £600 which is way too much for me.

It looks like on the 2nd hand market I might be able to get a Tamiya kit for around £80-£120 however this is 3-4 times the cost new so would be a last resort coupled with the fact I would need to also purchase replacement decals due to age etc.

Just wondering if anyone knew of a 1/24 scale kit of the car by any make that won't break the bank - I am aware that some models are more expensive than others but I would rather spend buy and enjoy 3 or 4 lower priced kits vs a much higher priced used 787B kit.

Hopefully the model will be remade at some point as the demand and rarity of this kit seems quite high.
