When is 1/72 scale, 1/72 scale???

Quick question guys...
As i keep mentioning, my next project is a 1/72 scale Revell old kit....

Now i was under the impression that 1/72 means all products be it Armour, planes, boats, trains or figures will be in scale if brought at the same 1/72 marked scale??
Is this a true fact or do scales change from brand?
The reason i ask is because the seated pilot with the revell kit is crap and i dont want him in there.
Instead i want him walking to the plane for a little thing i'm putting together.
So....... i buy some pilot and groundcrew figures... Airfix... old tooling BUT.... OO scale, or 4mm.. meaning according to research, 24mm is the 6ft pilot scale... or 1/76...( keep with me guys )
1/72 scale is 25mm to the 6ft pilot scale...
So that being means i went underscale slightly to improve the forced perspective i want to achieve.
Ermmmm .... it looks like i may have made a boo boo..... or the pilot who came with the plane lied his way in to training and was the youngest Italian pilot to fight in WW2, as he looks about 10yrs old in scale, being only around 20mm if stood...

Do you think my pilot will look "to scale" ( remembering he still has his stand to cut off ) or have i brought too big and need to scale down more to look right??

Had a similar product with the same kit, the size of pilot shouldn't vary too much at all as 1/72 scale SHOULD be the same across all brands .... I guess some just do it differently especially if it's an old tool like this! Most of my Revell kits that have come with pilots are a.)old and b.) tiny pilots so I guess it just varies (although it shouldn't)

Thanks for the reply...... Yeah I have watched you video review/build a handful of times over the past couple of months dude, and yeah you'll know what I mean.
The old Saetta kit is rough, with no detail and raised panel lines but I'm having a go.
Used artistic licence and loads of reference to work some magic on it hopefully making it acceptable. This is the first kit I have built in 33 years so wish me luck..
So do I use the walking pilot figure or will it look oversize?
I do like the figure..

It looks good on camera but as long as it looks as if he would fit in the cockpit to you I don't seen why not

Personally, I would say the the standing figure is a bit large but if you are using forced perspective the photo should be ok

Thanks for the input chaps.....
I have cut the base off and moved his pack from his hand and CA'ed it to his lower back, just hanging as it does...
He is still so slightly oversize I think but compared to some of the pictures I have found, he's not much out...
I will place him walking towards the plane from an angle, then plane then background bits and bobs...
Will start a build thread soon.
