Voyager PE Instruction Notations?

Post by Engine95 »

Hi'ya gents, I need a hand here. I've started on the PE parts for my Willys MB but I'm stumped about something in the instructions. There are several places where I need to use wire that came with the kit to make a hinge pin or tube. At each of those steps there's a number notation (see circled below).

At first I thought it was what wire diameter to use for that pin/tube. But there are the following notations in the instructions: 0.3, 0.5, 1.0, and 1.5. And there are only three different wire diameters in the kit, so that can't be it. Can anyone please tell me what these numbers denote?

I think it is the diameter of the plastic rod you should use.

id deffo say its the diameter. as i'm sure you know, that is the symbol for diameter. it may be that they want you to use plastic rod of 1.5mm. if you look in box 'e' they tell you to scratch build a part, so i assume they also expect you to fabricate other parts that aren't supplied as well.
some of these pe sets are notorious for having bad/unclear instructions.

Thanks gentlemen. If I ever knew that was the symbol for diameter I'd long since forgot it. And you're absolutely correct, these instructions are ambiguous at best.

One additional thing I've learned since starting back into this hobby is there's no way to do the more complicated PE kits without a PE bending tool.

the more you do it, the more you'll love it! bending tools do make things easier, but they can be pricey. if you're on a budget i would just get one of the smaller ones, they will cover most of your needs.
I've found that solder paste is also a great way to get nice solid joints, without the hassle of soldering irons and at least seven hands!
