Hobby Boss 1/32 IL-2 Sturmovik

Post by smokeriderdon »

OK, I seem to have lost my original thread for this. LOL Im not going to recap, but simply post where I am now.

So, I read a bunch of comments on how to do the paint for this build. I have never done anything like this. Completely out of my box. But I love the look of this plane with the winter camo all dirty and wearing off and all that. Speaks to the absolute desperation felt in stopping the Nazis. Push everyone and everything to the brink. But i had an idea in my head, and I went with that. I simply took paiting detail sponges you would use on trim in your house and simply pored Tamiya flat white on a large one. Wiped that on, then took another that was wetted with Tamiya thinner and wiped off varying amounts. This is the result. I have a lot of dirt and smoke and stuff to add plus the underside, but this is the overall look of it.

Second that :th: I like how the first nozzle is one shade and the rest are blackened by the first.

Thank you gentlemen. 😊 That was actually my least favorite part of the kit. If I do another one I will be looking for resin replacements. It was a pain in the ass getting each one lined up close to even.
