Google Slides

Post by bfrd »

You can now insert a Google Slides presentation directly into your post here at the ISM forums. It is fun and easy!

First, you need to make a Slides presentation. I won't get into how to do that. Plenty of information on the web there.

Once you have your presentation prepared click on "File" then "Publish to the web".

When that window pops up click on "Embed"

Now, this next part may seem tricky but it isn't I promise. The size selection won't really matter, I have that part set here. You can change the auto-advance and other settings to your liking. Once that is done, click in the box with all the text in it. Copy the entire text and paste into your post. It should look something like this:

iframe src="https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/ ... layms=3000" frameborder="0" width="2111" height="1216" allowfullscreen="true" mozallowfullscreen="true" webkitallowfullscreen="true"></iframe
**NOTE: You shouldn't click "Preview" at this step. Our server will think you are doing something naughty.

That bit of code (actually markup) tells the server to insert an inline-frame (iframe) into the post. A frame is like a window into another website. For security reasons we can't allow that so we have to edit. The first parameter of the iframe tag is called "src", that is the only thing you care about. Click just inside of the double quote and delete everything in front. You will have something that starts with "http". Now find the next double quote. It will be right after the number you chose in the "auto-advance" dropdown (multiplied by 1000). By default, it will be 3000. Put your cursor between the number and the double quote and delete the rest.

Should look something like this:
https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/ ... layms=3000
Now just highlight that link and click the "slides" button on the toolbar.

You are done.

I will work on making that copy/paste/edit bit easier. For now, this will get your presentation presented.
