Hello ISM...and can I get your expertise on colours please?

Post by Brewber »

Hi All here at ISM,

Just got back in to the hobby after 30 years, got an air brush and done a couple of models. Not proud of them yet but...each one gets a little better. I'm amazed at what you guys can produce, just astonishing, so I've a long way to go re: skills. All fun though (except for filling and sanding, that sucks!)

For my Dad's 70th birthday I'm building a Wessex HU5 for him (bought a FLY 32011 Westland Wessex HU.5 https://www.emodels.co.uk/fly-1-32-roya ... l-kit.html as the base model simply because its a HU5 and large!). He was a Royal Marine from '67 to '97 and in his time was ferried around in a Wessex; his favourite heli that he would like painted in what he descibes as "temperate DPM" re: Wessex that flew from Bessbrook.

I'm struggling to find (a) the right colours and then (b) which paint manufacturer might make them. I think the colours are:

Dark Green:
Reference: BS381C 220
Description: Olive green
Colour range: BS 381C

Lighter Green:
Reference: BS381C 284
Description: Spruce green
Colour range: BS 381C

For your assistance below is a pic my Dad found of the particular type of Wessex colours he recalls with fondness. Further below that, and for your amusement, are my first two models in 30 years!

If anyone can provide any help at all as to the correct colours, and who might make such colours, I'd be extremely grateful! Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
Richard

Hi Richard, the @fly1ngdutchm4n has an amazing thread on building just what you are looking for.

I'd use Tamiya XF-58 for the Olive Green, I used it on my Whippet (Link in my sig below if you want to look at what shade it is)

Thanks for the replies guys.

fly1ngdutchm4n's model is incredible;

Gary: That's very helpful thank you. I might need to just buy a few different greens and test them out but that's a helpful start thank you.
