Hasegawa 1/48 F-16C "Polish Tiger Demo Team"

Post by Styreneworx »

This is my finished F-16C "Polish Tiger Demo Team", presented in flight.

Products used:

Kits
Hasegawa 07452
Eduard Block 52 Exhaust Nozzle (for Tamiya)
Eduard Aim-9X
Eduard Aim-120C
Eduard Zoom PE Set
Model Maker Mask Set
Sniper-XR Pod and Pylon from the Hasegawa Aircraft Weapons Set: E
Master Pitot-tube and Static Dischargers

Base
Homemade Base - routed and painted gloss balck with 4mm bent Acrylic Rod

Paint and Finish
Ultimate Primer
Mig Acrylics
Tamiya Clear Smoke for the Canopy
AK Xtreme Metal
AK Glossy and Matte Varnish
Mig Panel Line Wash
AK streaking grime

Thoughts:
Got this built in about two months, and i am reasonably happy with the result. The Kit was pretty disappointing.. I always think very highly of Hasegawa Kits, and usually with good reason, but this one really shows its age. There aren't any obvious flaws in the Kit, other than the exhaust nozzle which isn't correct for a Block 52, but it just feels dated. It very much feels like the 1980's kit that it basically is, and there are no masks for the scheme and no tinted glass included, which you would expect to justify a 50€ pricetag. I should have bought the Tamiya Kit instead and the specific decals for this scheme, but i guess i fell in love with the boxart. Well but as said no major difficulties building the Kit, and even the Eduard nozzle for the tamiya Kit was fitted without much trouble. Masking and painting was pretty straight forward, but had my troubles with the AK glossy varnish, since it didn't lay down smooth. It actually produced at much rougher texture than the base-paint, which made decaling, weathering and keeping the model clean a bit of a challenge. After getting some pro-tips on the facebook-page, i decided that i will be using Aqua gloss on future models. So all-in-all the build could have gone a lot smoother, but no mistakes etc. big enough to not be happy with the finished model.
